I guess I don't really expect them to fire Cherington, but shouldn't somebody in that organization pay the price for even hiring Valentine in the first place? There was a zero percent change of that working out, and pretty much everybody who's anybody said so before they even made the hire.

How long was the deal for? They gave up prospects and quite a bit of $$$ to get him. Be interesting to see if they are willing to eat that much dough after 1 year.

Guillen has three years remaining on the four-year, $10MM contract he signed with the Marlins a year ago. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported last month that the Marlins would likely hire a low-priced alternative if they dismiss Guillen. Owner Jeffrey Loria will make the final call.
