What might have accelerated the rebuild

What might have accelerated the rebuild

This is just PURE SPECULATION and meant to have a bit of fun, or get flamed...whichevertongue

But I honestly did not think Baez would be here til next year...with Bryant possibly a trade deadline callup...so what changed?

Lester was traded to Oakland.

In doing so now Lester will not be able to receive a qualifying offer and Theo who I believe will target Lester as his number one priority this offseason will now do so without having to worry about losing a first or second round pick

Or maybe its just a coincidence Lester was traded July 31 and 4 days later Baez is being called upnoidea

I think you meant accelerated??

Not a bad theory that probably has some merit

I see no connection to Lester getting trade and Baez coming up

I do see the switch to 2b, improved performance at AAA and the beat writers reporting that some members of the front office felt development time in the majors trumped the business decisions.

Not its not grass, its painted dirt. And they had to do that logo so Mendy knows where to play.

The second half of 2014 was the target for Baez for a long time. Nothing changed.

I'm waiting to hear your explanation of why the Cubs promoted Baez after the Lester trade

Re: What might have excelled the rebuild

I'll play along. Unless the Javier Baez development plan said you're not going to the big leagues until Jon Lester gets traded, then I doubt it had any affect. And you would a have a hard time explaining to Baez how that made any difference in his development plan or career.

I think the only thing that's been excelled is expectations and maybe some fans are finally starting to believe in the plan and/or seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  This is a well thought out crafted plan that stays fluid by really smart baseball people. Give Ricketts all the crap you want but he's surrounded himself with some of the smartest and hardest working guys in the business.

And the players in the Cubs minors, they know they are good, they know their teammates are good, and they're all busting their butts to get better and make it to Wrigley to be part of it. They're confident young men who don't really care what's happened the past 105 years. The days of being the lovable losers are about to come to a screeching halt. I hope you can enjoy the journey instead of waiting for the sky to fall.

They may play in the same uniforms and in the same park, but these are not the Cubs of your childhood, adult hood or any other hood you've ever been associated with. Enjoy the final two months of last place.

I don't see a connection either.  Lester is ineligible for the qualifying offer whether Baez is called up now or in 2015.  Signing Lester would accelerate the process.  Prospects starting to make their way to the big leagues would accelerate their willingness to sign someone like Lester.  That's as far as their relatedness goes.

exactly my point...I am not sure how Theo felt about losing a number one or two pick for Lester...I do feel now Theo will throw crazy money at him since money is all he will cost....I also think Theo believes he can land him...Baez being called up now means they want to have him ready to compete in 2015...rather than just making his debut...if Lester had stayed with the Redsox I am not sure Theo would target Lester, are you?  And as far as Baez, people expected him to possibly get a September callup...and then maybe start the season in AAA and then get his official callup in May...but now thats when we expect Bryant.

I say let the majority name him.  Put up some suggestions and then let him be scarred forever, only to post his idiotic ramblings by the name chosen for him by his peers.

Before you started posting on this board I had brought up the idea of going young and playing prospects over filling the roster full of retreads, organizational filler and attempted comeback type players.

Coincidence.  Not sure why you're making such a big deal about this.

He bumped a year old thread to tell us what attendance has been this year.  If he has that much time on his hands he should find the Cubs2007 Thread of Awesome.

There is no connection between Lester and Baez. Let that topic die.

The better topic would be if the Cubs should sign Lester and go for the playoffs in 2015
