Draft Day 2014 (6/5 - 6/7)

The first round kicks off tonight at 6:00 CT on MLB Network.

Here's hoping the Cubs come away with a good haul.

I think they will.....but that doesn't mean those guys turn into solid (or great) MLB everyday players. I don't who said it but for once they made a good point on Kaplan's TV show. You can look at a guy from every angle, know everything about him and make a selection that is universally hailed at the time by all "experts"....and the guy never makes the turn and is deemed a "wasted draft choice". You just never know.

Nick Gordon will be the selections at 1.4.  You heard it here first!

The question is, do the top three teams all want to draft the top three pitchers (Aiken, Rodon, Kolek) ?  And if one of the top three pitchers drops, do the Cubs want to draft one of them instead of a position player?

I think that Rodon would be hard to pass on if available.  The reason I like Nick Gordon is that both his father and brother made it to the majors.  I like that he plays SS.  I like that he is a normal sized human.  I don't like guys who get drafted because they are 6' 8 etc.  I think he is the safest pick in the draft with considerable upside

Nick Gordon's lineage has to be a factor given the general uncertainty of MLB first round draft picks.  Seems to be a safe pick.

I like Gordon among the position prospects as well, but high school shortstops always carry some amount of risk.

Supposedly teams are worrying about what kind of bonus Carlos Rodon may want...

Let's hope so.  I don't see that as too much of a concern for the Cubs but it could scare teams 1-3 into taking someone else.

If Aiken & Rodon are gone (likely) sounds like Conforto/Gordon are top guys. Pentecost/Schwarber are options. Nola & Jackson are not. #Cubs

Appears Kolek is still in the discussion as well, but I get the feeling he's on the outskirts like Pentecost and Schwarber.

Kolek goes number 2. That other team that's in Chicago is picking next.

Katie beats me because my typing stinks tonight.  tonguetonguetongue

Rodon goes 1-3.  Cubs are now on the clock.  And I'm out...

These guys must take lessons from the nfl. Go to a commercial break when its time for the Cubs or Bears pick. We will see if they spend a minimal amount of time discussing the pick, like the nfl or espn, and then immediately glorify whoever is picked next in the draft. :)

suck.. but oh well

if any one had chosen a hitter this would have been so much easier

Florida taking Kolek instead of Rodon sealed our fate

Who did you want? I'm asking this seriously, as I haven't watched an inning of any of the players in the draft. I was surprised by the 1st round pick, but I want to see if he in fact is an advanced hitter and moves up quick.

Why did we draft a future backup catcher in the 3rd round?
