Bogusevic not back yet? Not understanding McDonald on the team. His numbers were not good in AAA (.653 OPS in the hitter-friendly PCL), on top of being 34, etc., etc.

Bogusevic took Dejesus place on the roster - Don't blame Samardzija for this loss - putting out a lineup like this must be part of the plan

I will assume Bogusevic might not be back with the team in time, because he is much better than McDonald...which, I know, isn't saying a lot.

It probably has something to do with this season being over and us being on our 4th/5th string CF.

Exactly. They brought up Lake and starting him everyday. There isn't anyone else like him in the minors they can bring up. He is a warm body, nothing more nothing less. Once again something extremely minor, basically trivial gets well blown up. What else is new.

And on a extreme side note since I didn't see it posted anywhere on the boards, Ryan Dempster proved again last night he is a jagbag. I can't stand A-Rod as it's been well documented here but I don't want the guy to take one in the head that can inflict serious damage. Dempster is truly a Dumpster of a human being that crapped his pants when it the going gets tough and I am glad he is no longer a Cub. And also the MLB warning system is beyond BS. Dempster tries to plunk A-Rod a couple times but both benches are warned? Bullcrap. Yankees should get to throw at least one of their guys first. And MLB wonders why they are in danger of becoming the 4th sport in this country within the next decade and a half!

Barney batting 2nd?  He has worse numbers than Castro, across the board.

Right on.  Dempster's actions are no different than a lynch mob's.  He has no right to take matters into his own hands and bean someone when MLB is taking care of A-Rod's breaking the rules.  What an a-hole, and he lied about it being intentional too (just like he lied to the Cubs about what teams he'd be willing to waive his 10/5 for).

Lake starts things off with a two bagger.  cool

I'm glad they kept Nate over DeJesus.

Not entirely. Barney has twice the grindiness that Castro does. tongue

As luck would have it, I think he is also a better bunter.

EDIT: and they are also playing McDonald, where Bogusevic would take advantage of the R/L platoon split; the righty Old McDonald has no such advantage. No clue how they picked the lineup today. Maybe a condition for the trade from the Nationals side was we had to play McDonald and bat Barney high in the lineup...

Re: Cubs vs Nationals - game 1

Lake laid down a great bunt but Zimmerman made an excellent play to get him.

Lake, BTW, has a 1.073 OPS in the #1 spot.  Small sample, but when I heard that DeJesus was traded (as much as I liked him), I thought good because Lake will probably go back to leadoff.

Nate is having a game.  Four RBI already.

LOL.  Little did they know that others in the lineup would bite them.  Edit:  Barney too.

Not only are the Cubs stacked in 3B prospects, but the major league position comes with pixie dust for them.

Evidently, evil trolls like Ian Stewart do not benefit from 3B pixie dust, while good little boys like Ransom, Valbuena and Murphy clearly do....

Lake continues to tell guys like Keith Law to stuff it.  Second leadoff double of the game.

Average pitches per plate appearance for Lake...little over 1.

Result: 2 doubles and almost a bunt single.

Poor Castro.  He used to be allowed to do this.
