opens a spot up for at least one guaranteed FA this off-season you would think. They have no OFers close enough in the system for opening day 2014 and the jury is still out on Lake. I think makes it pretty certain Nate will be back, but you still never know I guess.

Wrigleykid is going to be so disappointed!

He can just walk across the field tonight, at least.

The FO is working hard to get a top 3 pick, which is better than the 10th pick. Getting pretty hard to watch, though.

Lake will get a chance to start everyday next year. He shown enough ability to warrant that. I think Nate will be back and they will look for a couple fillers or perhaps Choo if he fits into their long term budget plans.

As for DeJesus, he will be missed for not only the skills he brought to the table and sounds like he was nothing but a positive influence in the Cubs locker room. But his wife will be missed much more! biggrin

Did not seem like the front office was interested in paying 6.5 million next year for platoon / 4th OF

Kim says good bye -

Bogusevic is already 29 with over 600 MLB plate appearances. He is the epitome of 4A player.

He is just a warm body. Nothing to get all worked up over. We all knew once the team had their fire sale, things would get ugly. Again nothing that is happening which is unexpected.

To be honest, the only thing that has shock me is Castro's struggles. Rizzo is only playing in his first full season so it was expected he have some ups and downs but Castro has been up for a few years now. You figure by now he start putting it all together and be more consistent. Not happening.

Too bad it's off topic which is against his rules biggrin. And if you want to see Kim, here you go:

And for those who don't know, Kim is a lifelong diehard Cubs fan and their little guy is not going to take it well: :(

Castro & Rizzo were the two most important players in the rebuild this season - Castro has regressed with multiple coaches getting in his head along with Rizzo failing to hit with runners on base. It seems most just expect players to improve every year which obviously is not true.

At least we can google image pictures of his wife... thanks for saving us money next season DD.

I true bona fide major leaguer overcomes things like "multiple coaches getting in his head."  If a guy can't handle advice he's got big problems.  I love Rizzo.  Don't get me wrong here.

Also, remember that improvement isn't linear.  Entire seasons can be blips/learning experiences/opportunities to improve.

I'll take Choo over Ellsbury. Less injury prone and would hurt one of the Cubs division opponents while strengthening their own team. Again to me it all comes down to the contract length. Anything above 3 years and I see the Cubs passing.

I doubt Choo re-signs with the Reds anyway, but familiarity with Ellsbury may be a factor in that decision. Choo's also had a few injuries in his past.

The Cubs are going to give a 4-5 year deal to a major free agent this offseason. I see no way they can cut payroll to below $80MM and it would be hard for them to get there without adding a big name.

I wonder what the return will be for DeJesus - that option is dirt cheap given his performance. I'm hoping for a high upside pitcher in rookie ball (something similar to the Campana trade).

I wouldn't bet on the Cubs giving a 4-5 year deal to a major free agent. The local writers have reported they will stay with the value signings.

The Dejesus return appears to be saving 2.5 million and a fringe prospect.
