He was listed at 6'4 240...so loses 20lbs doesn't seem out of the realm. Hopefully it was a wake up call when he got it trouble last year and he got serious about conditioning.

Really depends on what his body looks like. If he lost 20 pounds to drop a bit of the extra weight around his gut and get leaner, then it could be just a case of a guy hitting 30 and realizing the body is starting to metabolise foods differently therefore you can't eat the same as you did in your tteens and most of your twenties. Jay Cutler for insistence was never guy you would say was out of shape but rather in good shape and yet he lost 15 pounds a couple offseasons ago by eating more heathlier particularly shopping at Whole Foods and cutting down on his late night Taco Bell runs. And yet his jersey is hanging off of him like it was a bunch of guys in 2004 like Jeff Bagwell (he could have swam in his jersey that year), then we will know something is up. According to Business Insider, Hamilton said it was from better dieting and using a juice he saw in late infomerical commerical.

Considering his history of nagging injuries, this may not be a bad thing.

Well, hopefully the "juice infomercial" he saw wasn't from the S.W.A.T. "clinic" in Miami.  Seriously, aside from his well-documented history of substance abuse, doesn't it seem like Hamilton is just one seriously weird dude?

LOL! +1

Yeah Hamilton gives that weird dude vibe on top of battling some major demons. I believed he relapsed a bit late last season so hopefully that is a sign of things to come in LA. He isn't going to ask for the beer policy in the Angels locker room to be changed which is a change from what the Rangers did for him:

Hamilton's teammate Mike Trout has checked into camp at 241 pounds. Any red flags on him ?

Is Trout 20+ lbs. lighter than last year? I don't think so. Obviously doesn't mean he is a PEDer and doesn't mean he isn't.

Look at guys who did lose 20+ lbs in one year. Pudge Rodriguez and Marlon Byrd are two that come immediately to mind. Power numbers went down significantly for both.

Doesn't prove anything. But sure hints at something.

The putting on weight raises flags just as much as dropping weight in a year. He checked in at 5 pounds more than Pujols. That is a big CF.

Re: Josh Hamilton loses 20+ lbs. this offseason...

http://articles.latimes.com/20...angels-20130217

"He expects to lose about 10 pounds during camp, which would put him right around the weight he finished last season at, 230 pounds. And he has not gained 30 pounds, as some have speculated. Though he was listed at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds last season, he actually weighed between 225 and 230."

So it wasn't the massive weight gain that was reported and like many players, he expects to lose weight during the season therefore he is going in with a bit more meat on his bones.

As for PED's, you should be suspicious of any player that plays in today's game thanks to the knuckleheads of the past 15+ years. But so far there is no real reason "yet" to be suspicious of anything beyond that......
