RE: Vogelbach Slim
He's probably lost 50 pounds since he's been drafted. That's a good sign. The reason I always liked him in the first place was because his power didn't necessarily seem to come directly from his size. He doesn't put his whole body into his swing like Prince does. It's just very easy, very natural power, which means it's less likely to go away as he loses weight.

Re: Vogelbach Slim
Vogelbach is really starting to look the part.........if the part is for a 16 inch softball league.
Then again, Babe Ruth lugged around an extremely unathletic looking beer/hot dog gut and ran around the bases, after a HR like, tinkerbell. And when you take a look at that lefthanded swing of his, you understand why non of that mattered.

RE: Vogelbach Slim
I'm thinking he has the current mix of John Kruk and Prince Fielder...

I don't know about "starting" to look the part of a softball player. Based on the video I just saw he's lost a considerable amount of weight vis-a-vis when he was drafted and when the pictures in this thread were taken. Good for him. Looks like he might still have room to mature physically as well.

You know I might be in the minority, but I do honestly think it's good to be able to hit.

We'll see where he is in a couple years once he's gone through the higher levels, but yeah, he's going to be a fun one to watch the debates about. People have to be very careful to not dive too deep into the stats trying to sound like the smartest kid in the room and overlook a little thing like being able to mash the hell out of the baseball.

excited to see how our young guys progress. Aren't you surprised there aren't more young guys battling for jobs ? The team is coming off a 101 loss season and there is very little competition for jobs this spring. Besides a backup infielder and maybe a bullpen spot the roster is almost set.

That's awesome. Good to see him getting healthier and great to see him working hard, showing some dedication.

Believe that's very important, as the player will do all they can to max out and succeed. If God was kind to the player, he will succeed.

It's no secret we have little talent at the upper minor league levels and other teams aren't just giving away their own young talent.

I just don't want him to go too far with the weight loss...from what I've heard/read, DV might have been 275+ when the Cubs drafted him. If he settles in at 230-40 that's fine with me. The goal of any fitness routine isn't just to lose weight; it's to replace fat with lean muscle. If you told me two years from now that he weighed 240 but his body fat had dropped 10% from draft day, I'd be happy with that.
