AJ Pierzinski should fire his agent

AJ gets 1 year for $7.5 million from the Rangers.  Lance Berkman who had 97 AB's and is a DH is getting 1 year at $ 10 million with a vesting option.

I thought Berkman was going to get $ 4 million guaranteed with incentives.  I can't believe anyone was a close second to that offer.

I was also surprised AJ only got a 1-yr deal at $7.5, but there's a really good chance he was on something to put up the numbers he did in 2012.  His salary figure is about right if he goes back to his career norms.

Absolutely no evidence, not even whispers, of him using ped's in his career.  Kind of silly to think there was a really good chance he was on something.

I'm just talking about the 2012 season.  He hit more HRs than almost his previous last 3 seasons combined and posted his highest OPS of his career at age 36.  2012 was by far the best season of his career. That's hard to do without a little help, just sayin.

Check out his career stats..

I hate being the guy to defend aj, but no their has not been speculation about him cheating. Any sources aside from your uncle at the dinner table?

If him having a good season appears to be the reason for this speculation, I guess that means the shark is taking steroids too

There was speculation.  There was even a rumor that MLB was going to suspend AJ for PEDs.  The speculations was so strong that AJ actually addressed it.

I stand corrected.

He's also a bad catcher and, by all accounts, an absolute d*ckhead of a teammate.  Add even a whiff of PED-usage into that mix and there's no wonder that the market for a now-36 year old A.J. was nonexistent.

Yeah I get all that.  Solid hitting C with power are typically worth more than Berkman types who get 97 injured AB's.  Even if they are d*ckheads.

While paying Berkman $10 million is rather extravagant, he had a fantastic year in 2011 that, if duplicated, would show him to a wise investment.

Baez has "top-shelf bat speed," according to one National League scout who recently saw him play. "I haven't seen that type of bat speed this year outside of the big leagues. It's pure, unadulterated, just violent bat-speed."

Fangraphs calls him the poor man's Josh Hamilton:

Re: AJ Pierzinski should fire his agent

The market for a 36 year old catcher should be 1 year deal...especially when he as has no desire to be a tutor or share the position. I understand the PED reference and just about anyone in their mid 30's that has a better than average year will fall under the same boat. I also think the bad catcher reference is a little unfair given his actual stats and catching a large array of rookies last year.
