Hmm, might we see Soriano AND Marmol move on this offseason?

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
I like it! Very low risk. Days are numbered for Marmol.. 3:59pm: Fujikawa will receive a $1MM signing bonus, $4MM in salary for 2013 and '14, plus a vesting option at $5.5MM or $6MM based on games finished, Rosenthal tweets. If the option does not vest, it turns to a $5.5MM club option with a $500K buyout (Twitter link). In total, Fujikawa has a guaranteed $9.5MM when including the buyout. I agree. I doubt Marmol pitches again for the Cubs now. --------------------------------------------- --- doughboy981 wrote: I like it! Very low risk. Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
If they can't get a buyer for Marmol I'm okay with him in a 7th inning role behind Camp and Russell, he did finish strong and has done much better when he's not in the pressure of closing.

Wouldn't hate them going back to the Angels and trying to get Bourjos(sp).

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
How about Marmol for Howie Kendrick. Put him at 3b or then trade Barney

papa46 wrote: How about Marmol for Howie Kendrick. Put him at 3b or then trade Barney It would probably take a lot more than just Marmol to get that done. But if Marmol and others can get a 3B or RF, that would be nice.

JoeKeig wrote: whats his scouting report... hard throwing? offspeed? Fukijawa, 32, was 2-2 with 24 saves and a 1.32 ERA in 47 2/3 innings this season with Hanshin of the Japan Central League. Fujikawa is considered a power pitcher with a mid-90s mph fastball. He has averaged 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings in his career.

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
I think you are correct. The Cubs had a deal in place with the Angels with Marmol. ( old news). Then they outbid the Angels for the Fujikawa. It seems like an alternative Marmol deal makes sense, but probably for prospects. I am curious what you think Marmol would fetch from the Angels.

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
The Angels signed Ryan Madson last week to be their closer, so I don't know what their interest level would be in Marmol at this point.

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
According to Kaplan this was not a signing to be flipped later on. If you keep Marmol you have 2 closer candidates and a better bullpen. It gives the team greater flexability if they want to use Marmol in a trade to fill a need.

Any deal for Marmol would depend on how much salary the Cubs need to eat. I don't think anybody is going to take on his entire salary and then send over a decent player.

Re: Cubs sign Fujikawa
Bourjous is taking over CF, with Trout moving to RF to replace Hunter. The Angels won't be trading him anytime soon, he has a great glove and tremendous upside. They were willing to trade Haren for Marmol since they figured they were going to lose him anyway, but I doubt there's much interest any more.

Good luck in trading Marmol for anything of real value. The Haren deal was stictly our bad contract for their bad contract.

Marmol was 20/23 in save ops last year and was tough as nails after the break. The league knows he's virtually unhittable when he's on. He's got some value though how much is debateable.

The talk of Bourjos being dealt was last July at the trade deadline. With Hunter leaving the discussion is now he is the starting CF.
