Changes to Scout Forums

Changes to Scout Forums

Has anyone heard anything about this? Saw this over on the Ohio State boards. Could be a lot of upset people trying to access boards tonight during the games if this is true.

WEDNESDAY LAUNCH A GO FOR NEW SITE and FORUMS!

Say goodbye to Scout.com and this entire web interface.  At 5 PM CT on Wednesday the new FOX sports NEXT site will be unveiled to the public.

While the new system looks super and has some new bells and whistles, I'm going to miss this fairly functional interface, especially the forums.  Over the years Scout.com's forums have become really nice and easy to manage.  The new forums have some things the current one doesn't but won't have same bells and whistles that this one has.

While many of the bugs have been corrected over the past several weeks, you will find issues.  If you do, report them and include your browser type and operating system. Also be specific in your description of what is going on.  Not just "I can't post a reply".   Tell us whatever error messages you are getting.  What link did you click on that resulted in the undesired event?  What page where you on when you clicked that link?  Be specific and we'll be more able to quickly take action and get the issues resolved.

Re: Changes to Scout Forums

Some more info:

It's a complete overhaul thats been in the works since last year.  Going to be tough at first but will get better as time goes on.  Couple new features...

-An actual mobile version of the site including forums
-Ability to watch video on iphone/ipad/etc
-Home pages much easier to read and find information including staff articles and photos
-Integration with facebook/twitter
-Ability to receive e-mail alerts
-Threads will be archived, not just deleted after page 26 or whatever
-A SEARCH FUNCTION IN THE FORUMS!!!!!!!!
-Posts made between today and last Wednesday will not carry over to new site
-Your inbox will be deleted, so if you have incriminating evidence...save it now
-Post count will carry over to new site, but post counts will no longer be displayed in threads, only when you click on someone's profile...

Also, visually it's going to look VERY different, so keep an open mind

Thanks for posting this, Shea. I haven't heard a thing about this. Guess we'll have to wait and see how this shakes out.

I saw the same update over at the Oakland A's board. It's been up there for a few weeks

This is news to me as well. I will try and figure out what's going on and how it will effect this forum.

Re: Changes to Scout Forums

It has been covered in depth on the Penn State board.  Everything posted since last Thursday will be lost, everything prior to that date should transfer over to the new forums.

Also, PassWords must be 6 characters with the new forums.

It hasn't happened yet, it was supposed to happen this week sometime, but hasn't been implemented yet for some reason.

I agree. It's been discussed for a while on the Penn State board. They've known about it for some time, but also have a very heavy volume of traffic daily compared to all other boards on the Scout network.

Brace yourselves.  I've seen the new regime on another site, and it's not pretty.  I suppose we'll get used to it, but the design is pretty bare bones and looks like something that would have been on the web in the late 90s.  More like Sammy Sosa than Glenn Davis.  Not a disaster but why bother?

Gary, can you post a link to that site? I think we're all curious.

Thanks!
