The Rays pitching is on fire. Their hitters not so much. The way we have been looking at the plate this series has me pretty worried.  eek

This has the foundations for a slump....let's hope it doesnt happen. But a series like this can snowball. It needs to be nipped right now.

Anyone else concerned about this series....and the possibility the O''s could go into a tailspin???

True test to see how the Birds so against the Rays. A team that seems to play well in Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Let me check....

Yup. Very concerned.

I've seen too much Orioles baseball over the last 20 years to not let a situation like this concern me. And I've see entirely too much Yankee BS to know that somehow, some way, by some freak of nature combined with large amount of cheating, the Yankees will find a way to be there at the end.

heh heh--its very refreshing to see someone dislike the Yankees this much!!!
The O's have come too far this season to blow it now. I hope this weekend was a wakeup call. The Cubs are in last place and pretty much live there perpetually...but on any given day or days, any team can beat even the best teams in the business. O's can't live on their laurels. And TB won't be an easy opponent, even without Price.

Don't under estimate the Rays.  We did before!  We called them the worst team in the majors and ripped the Orioles for losing to them. The last week of June they took 3 out of 4 from us.  Since the All Star break they are 20 - 13.

Games back.

Yankees       6
Toronto         8
Tampa Bay  10

Well at least we get our DH back

I'm guessing Delmon Young is now an everyday player

Buck can't pick his spots with him anymore.

However, Pearce has re-found his stroke and is heating up again. So to play Delmon, do you bench Davis and play both Schoop and Flaherty? (thats scary even though Flaherty is hitting about 25 points or so more than Davis)
Not only am I not underestimating TB, I'm very worried about playing them right now. We could all be pulling our hair out by the weekend.

Tampa won't come back to win the division. That idea is just fantasy land nonsense. They are too far back.

But they sure have the talent to prevent Baltimore from winning it.

This is a very important series this week. It is not play time. The Orioles HAVE to win at least 2 of them. And that's a bare minimum. If they win 2 they are keeping that .500 pace they need to reach 90 wins which makes them realistically uncatchable by the Yankees.

Losing 3 could potentially bring the Yankees to within 3 with 7 games remaining against them head to head. That's WAY too close for my blood pressure. I don't even want to think about getting swept.

I still we think we need another bat on the bench ever if it's not a corner Infielder

I'd bring up LOMBO purely to Pinch Hit when needed.

IMO Flare Dogs stays on the bench in case of injury or ejection

In tight games he comes in to 3rd late and Davis slides over to 1st or comes up completely

Lombardozi is not lighting it up. My guess they keep him down so they protect an option on him in 2015. Why I dont know. The guy hitting down in Norfolk is Julio Borbon. He has batted about 350 the 2nd half of the season. I was hoping to see Walkers #'s still up there but he is in a slump/ Alvarez seems to be hitting but only 1 HR since his promotion. Still better than the other cuban OF who had a cup of coffee last season with the Birds. He has been a disappointment so much I forgot his name.

Tillman cruising through the 4th. 3-1 O's headed to the bottom half and should be 3-0. A missed play by Pearce at first and an error by Schoop led to the one Rays run. But Pearce made up for his boo boo with a dinger in the second.

Re: Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles [?-?-?-?]

Orioles are rolling in the 5th inning... Cruz singles in a run (Error on Joyce); Young goes deep for a 3 run shot, and Hardy follows him with a one-run homer....  Looks like the bats woke up tonight, Orioles lead 8-1 on 11 hits.... Make that BACK TO BACK TO BACK Homeruns, as Davis goes yard to make it 9-1.

The offense tonight has been fun, for sure. But the best part of this game is easily the Jones robbing the home run then doubling up the runner at 2nd. I've seen both of those things 100 times, but never on the same play!

The Royals are laying an egg against the Yankees though. That's disappointing.
