Re: Baltimore Orioles vs Los Angeles Angels [?-?-?]

We could throw Greg Maddux, Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver at them right now and not have much success. I am so not looking forward to these next games. Again, if we win one, it will be a total bonus.
But I wish we would step up and act like we belong. We let one very ugly one get away on Friday and then we got crushed yesterday. We all 'feel' we should have taken the series....but we didn't. As they say, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. As August approaches we should take zero comfort in 'almost winning'.
Now you win no matter how its done; pretty , ugly, close, romp....anyway you can get it.
Take no prisoners; accept no excuses...the Angels may well catch Oakland. I'd love to see us derail them. but it won't be easy.

Dont get me wrong I want a 6-4 trip but Im thinking 4-6. 1 from the A's, 1 from the Angels and 2 from the Mariners. If we can sneak another win in I will be happy. 3-7 will be dissapointing

The pitching matchups are not too awful in this series. But we didn't look sharp this weekend and the Angels did a bit look better right now. Like others I will be ok if we win 1 but would like to see us get 2. Getting to the time of year when you have to find a way to win. Every team in the division gained ground on us this weekend. Not a good recipe.

Re: Baltimore Orioles vs Los Angeles Angels [?-?-?]

odds of pulling off the upset tonite? Anyone think we can win? If they show up with the zeal and work ethic of Sunday, I'll stop watching after 2 innings. If OTOH, they attack the beast like on Saturday and play like the first place team that THEY are....the results could be different.
We have spent considerable time discussing the woes of Davis....but I think right now, the O's have to get Cruz going again. The power and run production has disappeared into Chesapeake Bay.....

Agreed. In the last 22 games Cruz has batted .227 with 5HRs and 14 RBIs.  And in his last 8 games he has .103 with no HRs and only 1 RBI. Can't have a guy hitting #4 in the lineup with those kind of numbers. In that same 8 game span Davis has hit .214 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs. Lousy average but he has driven across a few runs.

That batting average over the 22 game span you cite....yeah, it's pretty awful....but the 5 HR and 14 RBI scale up to 37 HR and 103 RBI over a 162 game season. Keep that in mind. His BABIP is a paltry .237 over that stretch so I chalk this up to him just running in to some bad luck. Clearly he's still driving in runs and hitting homers....just not seeing the rest of his balls drop in for hits to help that BA. His season BABIP is .288 and career rate is .300 so I think he's going to come out of this "slump" soon.

Nothing to see here....he's fine.

That's the thing with stats. You can pick and choose what you want to look at and how you want to use them for the point you want to make.  Well ok what do you have to say about the last 8 games! That scales up to ....yikes.  He should be fine but right now he is not.

My son and I discuss the stats they put up on tv all the time and how silly some of them are. When Nick comes to bat and they say he has a 10 game hitting streak that is one thing. But when Nick comes up and they say he has 3 game hitting streak. So what. Bottom line is that baseball is the most analyzed stat heavy sport on the planet. But at the end of the day all that really matters is the Ws!

I love west coast starts but than I live my life during unconventional hours

I think we can win couple here - Angels are way overrated IMO

agree on stats....my concern and I feel its legit was his 3-29 in his last 8 games with some very poor plate appearances In THAT span he has 0 HR's and 1 RBI along with 9 k's. Thats terrible production.  He may be 'OK' eventually...but right NOW, we need him...at least we need him OR Davis...can't have both of them flailing away in the heart of the lineup. Basically during those 8 games, he has contributed nothing.

I consider a key player to be in a slump when you start noticing that he isn't making any contributions.
He's in a slump at a bad time. so I'm worried.
I want to win these games. I need him now. Thats the 'stat' that means the most to me.wink

Angels have 2 on with no outs after throwing error by JJ. Wasn't really a bad throw but the sun got in Schoop's eyes at 2nd and he couldn't see it.

Uh oh, Norris just took a ground ball hard off the ankle.

He's going to continue but it'll be interesting to see how far he can go

Norris gets through 2 with no further damage. He's pitching well so far, hopefully the adrenaline will keep going and the ankle won't swell up or get stiff when he is on the bench between innings.

Norris gets out of a huge bases loaded jam in the 4th getting Trout on a strike 3 call! We're tied at 2 after 4

O's haven't gotten a runner on base now since AJ's home run, 14 down in a row. This Shoemaker has a nasty splitter working for him

How about another 2 run homer for smoking hot AJ!!!!!! O's lead 4-2 and are into the Angels bullpen in the 6th.

Great job by Bud who will leave after 6.2 innings. He is responsible for Pujols on first and now Matusz comes in to face Hamilton

Matusz strikes him out on 3 pitches and is now an 0-12 with 8 K's against him. LOL I haven't seen a worse at bat in a long long time.
