David Ortiz just plays by different rules

David Ortiz just plays by different rules

I'm really tired of David Ortiz and the insane amount of special treatment he gets. I've recently ranted about how his royal fatness is allowed to use steroids with impunity, allowed to chastise anyone who mentions that he has been caught using steroids red handed, allowed to use the F word in front of sell out crowds while televised without repercussions, is allowed to instigate brawls on the field multiple times per season without any repercussions, can destroy public property and endanger the lives of others while smashing things to pieces with a bat in roid rage temper tantrums, is allowed to argue balls and strikes without ejection (supposed to be automatic), but now there is a new one...

Now David Ortiz doesn't even have to bat.

Meathead actually steps out of the box and heads to first base on ball four of an intentional walk BEFORE THE PITCH IS THROWN. And he's given the base!!! The video clearly shows his foot is out of the batter's box before the pitch. Since no official time out was requested, he left the box during play. By rule, that is an automatic out.

But not for Ortiz. For him there are different rules, as I established above.

Even if it's not against the rules to do this (it is) it's still just a pompous d--k move. That's all he is anymore is an arrogant jerk. I swear he does stuff like this just to see how far he can go before Major League Baseball will say anything to him about it.

What is so special about this guy that the league protects him so much?

He's not even a baseball player. He's just a hitter. He wasn't even good in the field, even playing the easiest position in sports. Now he can't even play that position at all and only bats. And he's a known cheater at that!

So what is the appeal to this guy that makes him a made man?

Let me guess....you don't like Ortiz very much do you!!!
(but I understand these things...I had a similar disgust for Albert Belle...and I even had to put up with him when he was on my favorite AL team) the Boston fans love Ortiz. I'm not so sure Belle had many real fans in Baltimore, even when he played for them. And I can tell you how many fans he had in Rochester---ZERO. He was more disliked than A-Rod and Bonds combined.

Normally I wouldn't pay any mind but he had the nerve the other night to start walking out of the batter's box before an opposing pitcher threw a pitch because he "knew" he was gonna get walked. That's the kind of crap that is gonna make other teams want to throw at him.

The umpire is to blame on that one too. He should have immediately called Ortiz out for leaving the batters box without calling time out.

I don't understand why the next pitch the Cubs threw wasn't high and tight chin music to make it really clear to Ortiz that such behavior wasn't acceptable. Of course that would have resulted in Ortiz charging the pitcher from first base, starting a brawl, then not getting ejected or suspended for it.

Boston fans love him because his arrogant, entitled nature fits them perfectly.

I'm not much of a "Big Sloppy" fan either..........................sorry, "Big Papi".

Surprised you didn't mention his epic poses after home runs Skip.

I've have literally seen him still standing in the batter's box watching when the ball cleared the fence.

Should it be allowed? No!  But it's been going on since Ancient Greece, Star Athletes have received special treatment and shown favoritism. Today they have been known to get away with rape and murder and it will probably never change.

Talk about low down scoundrels !  Years ago I paid $40.00 to see a Mike Tyson fight on the large screen at our local Civic Center.  I got there about 8 PM and had to sit through all these minor fights leading up to the Main Event which didn't start until after 11 PM. You'll love this....when the Tyson fight started I dozed off and he knocked the guy out in about the first 60 seconds.  I was sitting next to the owner of the local Chinese Restaurant, he nudged me and said, " You missed it "

I remember that fight. My dad let me stay up to watch it. I was so excited because that fight was all anyone was talking about in sports for a week. I ran out of the room to go to the bathroom when it started. When I came back it was over.

As for Ortiz, he's taking special star treatment to a new level. I understand the whole "veteran gets the strike call against the rookie" business. But not the "can throw punches and break all the rules with impunity" is getting old. He's not even a great player. He is an above average hitter.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it.  His D-baggery has entered a whole new level.  I thought it was very arrogant.  Sort of understand the whole David Price debacle earlier in the year.
