Joseph nails another runner going to 2nd.

If we could just teach that kid to hit he'd be a real gem!

Of course with his recent home run glut maybe he's figure that part of the game out too!

Nevermind my earlier excitement. I forgot today is a day game so the whole team forgets how to play.

Letting the worst team in baseball manufacture runs like champions....awesome.

don't panic (he says as he peers into his glass-half-full mug) The final score of this one won't be 2-1.....

Gausman suddenly has no command. So I'm sure the 2 won't hold up. Let's just hope the 1 doesn't hold up either. Tampa's pitching isn't exactly Cy Young worthy today either. So you have to think the Oriole bats can put up some crooked numbers here and there.

Gausman has been having weird control issues through 3.

He is going after hitters and making them look dumb half the time, but the other half he can't find the strike zone with a map. It's one of those weird outings where the pitcher's control makes no sense.

Oddly those are horrible for pitch counts and going deep in the game. But they also tend to keep the score low because batters have no idea what to expect. When a guy is totally wild batters can just sit on junk and wait for groove fastballs. When the pitcher is perfect batters at least know they can look for strikes. But when a pitcher keeps switching between great and horrible the batters are just making wild guessed on what's coming and that's not a good situation for batters.

That seems like a long winded way of saying the 4th. excited

Neither pitcher is being efficient. Both have pitch counts in the 50's and we aren't through the 3rd yet.

That's bad news fro game 1 of a DH that is the first of a 4 game set.

This game is going to lead to a lot of offense for both teams in the late innings of games 2, 3, and 4. In other words, don't turn of this weekend's games early. There are fireworks coming.

Re: Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles [?-?-?-?]

Games like today just make me angry. It's such a pattern. The sun is out, so the teams puts forth a completely flaccid effort from top to bottom.

They can't pitch. The fielding is lacking. And the hitting is anemic against a bad pitcher. 2 hits in 5 innings? Seriously?

It's now 4 to 1 Rays and the Orioles have worked themselves into yet another hole by playing like it doesn't matter to them. The is the worst team in baseball they are playing, and the Orioles can't muster enough effort to even be competitive.

UPDATE

Make that 5 to 1 Rays. The Rays haven't even had to try hard to get their 5. And their crappy starting pitcher is going to make it through 6 innings, saving their bullpen for the 4 game series. That's embarrassing in itself with as wild as the guy has been the entire game. But no one in the Oriole line up has the discipline to take walks...so pop ups, fly outs, and strike outs on bad pitches are the batting style of choice.

Where is the pride on this Orioles team? They look like they are having all kinds of fun when they win. But I don't see serious determination when they are losing. I see guys who act like it's not important. There is too much talent on this team to get blown out by horribly crappy teams and accept that like it's okay.

They said Davis is hitting .300 with men in scoring position, 220 the rest of the time. Hang around this game isn't over yet.

Another double play to end an inning. Awesome.

Lackluster effort.

pretty embarrassing so far. Doesn't look good at all. They will need another last gasp rally to make a game of this. I honestly thought we'd come out blazing today....

Gausman was really off today. At least the good news is that Joseph has a 50% average of catching runners out at second. Say what you want about his lackluster hitting but it's his glove that is making me glad to have him on the team.

The kid can throw. No doubt about it. And he hasn't been here long enough to see if he's really a bad hitter yet. He might end up being a serviceable bat in a year.

As for coming out with fire today, when do these ever do that? This team doesn't have fire out of the gate ever. That's the problem. They get into games as they progress, but they don't start off ready to rock from the first pitch. And when things go bad early they deflate fast.

Come on....make losing Balfour in free agency look like the smartest move ever this inning. Touch him up for 5 or6 right now!

Or make a bunch of weak groundouts from lifeless at bats like you don't even care to be on the field.

Either way....
