Johan Santana done for the year

Unfortunately got some bad news that Santana tore his Achilles while fielding a ball at a game. Confirmed by Roch and Connolly. frown

That's horrible.  The only luck we have with starting pitchers is bad luck.

Awful luck for Johan.  Tough to tell what kind of impact he would have made, but we could have really used a fresh arm with the whole rotation struggling right now.  Gausman really needs to step up his game now.

Didn't we just sign him to a ML contract last week? What luck!

Oh well...I'm not too worried about it. I'd rather they go out and make a legitimate move rather than lean on Santana, a guy I don't really think, at this point, is much of an upgrade over, say, Wei-Yin Chen.

Re: Johan Santana done for the year

this is true. Were we really counting on anything from him...honestly? It was the longest of longshots. Bad luck, yes. But back to reality. Stupid baseball did the team in yesterday. Can't have too many more of these games if we want to be playing meaningful ball after the ASG.

Yes but we could always hope to catch lightning in a bottle and frankly I think even if we had gotten Santana to contribute that we would still need to make a move. But it is what it is. Interesting to see what happens the next 6 weeks now.

this guy knows how to get MLB hitters out. 100+ million and he still had his heart in it enough to try a comeback of all places with the Orioles in the AL East. Hats off to him sorry to see him get hurt.

Last pitched in the big leagues in 2012; his line was 117 IP, 4.85 ERA (4.09 FIP), 1.33 WHIP, 79 ERA+. He would have to SIGNIFICANTLY improve upon those numbers in order for it to even make sense rostering him. Sorry but I can't bring myself to get remotely worked up about this.

Yah those numbers are not very good. Right in line with several current starters including Tillman.

Brutal!  Was looking forward to at least seeing whether he had anything left.  Just our f'ing luck.
