Orioles will be in the American League Championship series

Orioles will be in the American League Championship series

Im not basing this at all on how well we have looked this spring training. For me personally, I just have that feeling that everything will come together as it should and this will put us in the ALCS.

The pitching and bullpen will be better. Machado will come back on the verge of superstardom, Weiters looking for a contract will put together his best season and our solid rotation and depth will vault us above the Yankees and Rays to take on whoever.

I truly believe this. Last year I felt we would take a step backwards but it was still a solid year despite the bullpen woes. This is the year folks. I truly believe it.

I like your optimism. Most people here know I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to the Orioles. I don't know if I'm willing to say they're going to the ALCS but I am willing to say that there's no way they are any worse than last year. I think they will be good for at least 90 wins....but they've got some very tough competition and you've gotta wonder if 90 wins can get them in the playoffs. We shall see...

If they add Ervin Santana I'd say anything less than playoffs would be a failure (and I don't mean than 1 and done game)

If this comes together and we catch lightning with Johan this could be one of Buck's 100 wins teams

but Tubby Hunter could screw it up.  I like him out of the BP but don't know if he can handle the workload of closing a lot of games.

I think we'll have the runs and defense.  Starting pitching should be serviceable to very good.  The bullpen should be serviceable to very good.  But the closing worries me a little.  Then again, we might not use a closer.  Could be a rotational thing with a guy or two or three that fill the need.  There were a number of times over the past two years where I felt that either Matusz or Hunter could've closed out games instead of using Jimmy.  I don't think Tommy Hunter could handle a 50 save schedule.

I think Hunter will be good if given the closer job and he worked 15 more innings then Johnson did last year.  So I'm not concerned about the workload unless he continues to beef up.  He'll give up the long ball which Johnson didn't but he comes straight at the batter with 98+ fastball and a good slider/curve.  He's less of a feel guy then Johnson.  I could tell after 3 pitches if Johnson had it or not, Hunter at least will give us consistency in stuff.

I agree with your assessment on Johnson dlotter. I just wish Buck would have picked up on it in 3 pitches last year. We might have made the playoffs if Buck had yanked on some of those "obvious" nights.

I like our chances for an ALCS run as well.

It was pretty obvious with JJ when he didn't have it.

It was clearly apparent to everybody within two batters if JJ had it or not. So why did Buck continue to be so bull headed about leaving him out there. IF Buck has a fault its that he is almost too supportive of individuals to the detriment of the team.

We have the Defense, the Power, unreal depth at pitching and an improved Bullpen I believe.

I absolutely believe this is our year. 31 years later, our time is now once again. Enjoy 2014............

The New York Times has us in the Series losing to St. Louis...  That would be great, sans the losing.pirate

From what I've read, Hunter is the closer for now. I think they are going to give him a few chances to see if he can handle it and if not, try someone else.

Well at least we know Hunter isn't a major issue for the team. He has yet to get another save opportunity this season. ohlord

Some guy on reddit said he bet $30 the O's would reach the World Series. He said he's looking at a cool $500 if they get in. Not bad, huh?

Too bad about Johan - but I was right about Hunter not being able to handle closing
