Orioles Hire Jeff Manto

Jeff Manto, has been hired as Minor League Hitting Coordinator.

Isn't this the guy who had a fan club of Nuns in Cleveland. Every time we played there they showed up in big numbers to cheer him on?

NOTES: Drafted in 1985 by the California Angels, Manto began his Major League career in 1990 in Cleveland and spent parts of nine seasons in the big leagues. His best year came in 1995 in Baltimore, where he hit 17 home runs for the Orioles, four of which came in consecutive at bats

RE: Orioles Hire Jeff Manto

He played part of one season with Rochester (after coming over in a trade from the Mets I believe) and instantly became one of the all time favorite Red Wings. It was our last season at Silver Stadium and he even came back in the winter to help launch the movement to build our new stadium. His season and his involvement in our city for that one season here earned him Red Wing HOF honors. Then the O's let him slip away and he ended up playing in Buffalo--where the fans also loved him.
He's a good man. He should help.

If you Google Jeff Manto, you will get a ton of information.  He even has a page on Wikipedia.

By all accounts I have read, and there are many on the Internet, Jeff Manto is a good person and will be an asset to the organization. But for a player who had a nine year career where he played for eight different teams, had a career BA of .230, hit a total of 31 HR's ( 17 during his one season with the Orioles ) he gets a lot of coverage on the Internet.

He kinda inherited the nickname 'Mickey' in Rochester. He finished that one season here with 30 HR's..that doesn't happen much anymore in the I.L. Great guy.

Re: Orioles Hire Jeff Manto

My main memory of Jeff Manto is probably kind of silly, but he came to the Orioles during the era when Chris Berman would give players either goofy or weird nicknames on Baseball Tonight, and I always wanted to hear him called Jeff Manto-piece (as in mantlepiece, dunno why, it was the first thing that came to my young mind at that time). Berman being Berman went way out there, however, and usually called him Jeff "Train" Manto, which I assume was an obscure classic rock reference of some sort, but never thought about actually looking up until now. I liked Manto in his limited time with the Orioles, though, and hope he does well in this new job.
I dream of 1966, 1970, and 1983. I would also take 1969, 1971, and 1979. But 1973, 1974, 1996, 1997, and 2012 were okay. Toss in 1960, 1968, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1989, and 1994 too.

One question, only.
Does Manto believe in bunting and fundamental play ?
