WHY I'M DONE WITH THE O's...........at least for this year!

JAMES JOHNSON you've blown enough SAVE opportunities this season to last a career! MATT WIETERS I'm sick and tired of hearing about how HOT you are in SEPT.'s only to view your anemic BA and lack of anything clutch! AJ you talk the talk and now and then walk the walk BUT you still can't lay off that low outside pitch in the dirt!! You always seem to come to the plate with runners in scoring position BUT lately you keep letting this O's fan down. "WAY IN" CHEN develop some mental toughness. BUCK your loyality to your players has come back to bite you in the butt as you leave pitchers in the game one too many batters time and time again. BULLPEN what was the strength of this club has quickly become its achilles heel. AGREE with me or DISAGREE. Being an O's fan since '58, this was a very tough and trying season for me because the BIRDS had the potential and opportunity to be much better.banghead

Yep--thats the rub. On paper they are MUCH better than this. Don't know why they shut down this year. Who knows, maybe Reynolds presence in the clubhouse was far more important last year than we know. Clearly, he is much more emotional than Davis (who has been merely moderately average since July) Just a thought. Some main element is missing this year. And Johnson has been simply brutal when it counts most. In one short span, he did 3 things that your go-to guy should never do....give in to a hitter batting .000 with his new team; making that awful, routine peg to 2nd..that wasn't even close to anybody; and then throwing a completely uncatchable pitch to a guy who should have been walked intentionally. All in all, he owes everyone on that bench an apology. Rarely does one player so completely lose an important game for a team this side of Billy Buckner.

Also recall that Luis Ayala was credited for keeping the bullpen loose. While he was not the best arm out there, it possible his intangible of clubhouse leadership is what is missing this year.

Clubhouse chemistry is often considered overrated...but clearly last years team was having a LOT more fun than this years team...at least from what we can see. Maybe we DID lose some of the characters that kept everybody loose.

Baltimore Orioles | 79-70, 2 1/2 GB
Schedule strength: .555
Playoff probability: 5.6 percent

Those 2 1/2 games doesn't sound like much, but the Orioles have dual enemies: a bullpen that's making games past the sixth inning an adventure, and a brutal schedule remaining.

The O's have the toughest schedule remaining. Even worse for their upside scenarios is that only four of the 13 games remaining are against direct competitor for the wild card, a road series against Tampa Bay. Like the Yankees, the O's need to root for the Rays.

Baltimore is the only playoff contender with games remaining against the Red Sox, and while it won't show up in the statistics, the Red Sox would like to seal home-field advantage, so they are unlikely to treat the games against the O's as meaningless. In addition, the Red Sox remember 2011, in which the Orioles were an accomplice in the Rays taking down the Red Sox, and there would be at least some satisfaction in returning the favor.

Not sure I agree. I think our chances are better if Texas kills the Rays. We play the Rays so can be in position to get that spot. Then we just got to have somebody knock off Cleveland. If the Rays beat up on Texas that makes it easier for the Rays to just hang with us and we can' catch them.

Chew on this: With tonight's win against Boston, the O's are back to 10 games over .500, the same record they had at the All Star Break. With that .500 record since the ASG, they're still just 2 games behind both Wild Card teams and to say this team isn't due for a hot streak is a serious understatement. The O's won their first 4 games after the break and haven't won more than 3 in a row since. I believe!

I really hadn't counted on us winning the Boston series. Now we might sweep it. If that happens, this team still has a legitimate shot at post season. Their fate would be in their own hands if they then could knock off Tampa (no easy job there). We have the GIH on Cleveland so we could be tied with them if we win it. I dont know all the combinations of tie breakers for the WC's. Haven't allowed myself to get any hopes up yet....but by the end of this week, maybe....maybe.....

I have to agree that i don't see the O's pulling it out this year. They don't have the pitching or more importantly the clutch hitting to win the close ones. Nick & McLouth seems to have fallen off a little and none of the guys seems to be able to come through with men on base. Not to be negative but I think we need to start preparing for the long off season except for those who just shift to football.

Agreed! And the last two games are good reason for frustrations. I think it's time to buy a bat or two.

I've stopped looking at the standings. I don't care anymore who makes it of the remaining teams. I don't like any of them. And it will be a total shame when the Yankees finish ahead of us.

I hate that the Evil Empire is ahead of the O's and I'm really disappointed that if the O's finish  4th it makes all of those reporters that predicted they would not repeat right. Tired of the national media not giving the O's credit.

Not sure how you are tired of the media not giving the O's credit.  Most of the pundits had us finishing fourth or last this year based on two things.

1. The O's did not make any significant moves over the winter to improve. Every other team in the division made changes.

2. No way that the O's would repeat their superb record in one run games.

Well now that the season is over how can you say anything but yes the media was spot on?
