about the new CBA and draft pick comp

i was reading mlbtraderumors and it while reading i read that rafiel soriano is tied to draft pick compensation for the team that signs him because the yanks made him a qualifying offer which he declined

now months after soriano declined the offer he goes back to the yanks possibly out of desperation and asks if they had interest in bringing him back on a 1 year and the yankees said "no"

so the yankees have no intent to sign him and neither does any other team as far as i know because they dont want to lose the pick

doesnt that kinda leave soriano in limbo?

like how long is he tied to that draft pick compensation? what if he waits until after the 2013 draft to sign because no team will sign him? will the team who signs him have to give up a 2014 draft pick?

how long is he tied to draft pick compensation? forever until a team signs him?

I agree that there should be a time limit on the compensation.
Maybe the beginning of the season but at the same time in the "real world" if you are offered a job and you turn it down, very seldom can you go back two months later and say "I changed my mind" because the job market tougher that one thought.

yea in the real world if someone offered me 13 million or watever to formula comes out at to pitch a season in relief i jump on that right away...i understand wanting to explore the open market but at the same time his agent clearly misjudged the market and the consequences of being tied draft pick compensation

his asking price will have to go down. no one wants to get socked twice. signing him to a big deal and losing the pick as well the $ value of the pick. i believe he can sign a minor league deal and the signing team doesnt surrender their pick. once the 2013 draft is over no draft pick compensation after that.

It's kind of interesting to see players not being able to sign anywhere because of the draft pick now. Funny thing is that the remaining players that are available with signability issues were part of playoff teams last season such as Lohse and Soriano. Bourne is another possible signability issue. Don't know what pick, if any, is attached to him but seems like even with his defense and speed there hasn't been that much insight into him lately.

I smell tacos...

so theorectically soriano could wait til after the 2013 draft and the team that signs him wont have to forfeit there draft pick? that makes more a little bit more sense if thats true
