Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Cleveland is close to signing infielder Mark Reynold. There is still ground to cover, but Cleveland is out in front for the power-hitting veteran's services.

Re: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Unbelievable. We let him go for $6 million?
Anyone kinda find it funny how Chris Davis' grand slam was his 4th home run on his 4th at bat, driving in 4 runs, causing the O's to win by 4 runs on Opening Day, the 4th game of the season?
If that's not Earl talking from above...

$6M? I think we should read between the lines then...the O's clearly had no intention of re-signing him...if he was willing to sign for $6M and the O's didn't offer him that...he was a goner just as soon as the last out was made in the Yankee series.

I don't think just offering 6 mil was an option. They had to offer arbitration, which by all accounts was going to cost 9 mil. Obviously, if he signs for 6, they would have over paid.... And maybe, they did offer 6, but since it was a decline in pay he refused and said he'd like the market to determine his value, thinking he'd get more. Maybe he got bad advice from his agent? It works both ways, right? My point is, you have no more insight than I do on what happened and your willingness to place premeditated blame on the O's, seems over the top. In any case, I've heard good things about Davis' defense at 1st, and given he's younger, cheaper and better, he deserves a chance, and I'd like to see him spend the year over there.

RE: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Well at least he didn't sign with NYY
I guess the O's didn't think the power and DEF at 1B were worth the 200 strikeouts and sad avg
...and don't call me Shirley

RE: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
I am a little stunned to see he only signed for 6 million. There has to be a better plan at 1st than we see on the current 40 man roster as there is no true 1st baseman on the 40 man roster. Its to risky to try another project with this so so staff who could go either way up or down in 2013.

'premeditated blame'????? I was just saying it appears the O's had no intention of re-signing him, for more than they thought he was worth. Recall they never even called him until the final few hours. They were clearly not going to pay him arbitration numbers ($9M) so they were going to let him go and then, if things didn't work out for him elsewhere, maybe try to re-sign him for less. The fact that he signed for 'only' $6M and it wasn't in Baltimore, seems to indicate at the end of the day, he really didn't want to come back. Thats all.

I don't think DD ever offered anything. Why I have no idea. Why they didn't at least talk with him prior to non-tendering him is anyone guess, only the Orioles front office knows the answer to that. After non-tendering him was the O's front office just waiting to see what his market was or was Duquette just not that interested? Did Reynold just say to heck with it and signed the first real offer he got? We may never know.

Re: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Keep in mind that it was reported that Duquette never called Reynolds all offseason until the call to let Reynolds know that he was being non-tendered. Duquette more or less confirmed that during Winter Meetings. I'm just hoping that if there is a plan to upgrade the defense at first base that it happens soon. The market is pretty slim.

Re: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Kotchman is good wit hthe glove but he only batted in the 220's this season. If Flaherty is to bulk up would he be better suited for 1st base over 2nd base? I think the best 1st baseman on the roster is our rightfielder but he is to good at RF. I want power from our 1B but the guy needs a decent glove to dig balls out of the dirt.

Here are Davis' stats. They're pretty good! He has a career .995 fielding percentage at 1st. Technically, Davis is an upgrade defensively over Reynolds.

RE: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
we may get to see that play out. I wonder if the O's would be interested in Morneau..who can still play a decent 1B? We would have to give up some pitching cuz the Twins pitching staff is a total mess and I am not at all impressed with the 3 pitchers they got in trade for Span and Revere. Some Twins fans are all a-flutter over the two prospects...a Single A from Washington and a AA from Philly--but they are just that...unproven prospects and the Twins gave up two very good everyday players, totally weakening their outfield. As I said earlier, maybe this is a good time to deal with Minnesota...we could get Morneau on the cheap, the way they are trading.

I feel sick. I'm gonna miss the heck out of him, he's one of the few guys on this team with an acceptable OBP, his power streaks and his stellar defense at first.

It's DH platoon between Betemit and Casilla that I'm not looking forward to.

RE: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Rays, Red Sox and Jays have all been busy strengthening their teams for 2103. The AL East should once more be a very competitive division.Sure hope the O's don't miss out this offseason...they need to keep pace. Except for Reynolds, the core of this team that made us so happy last season is still pretty much intact. But there is always room for improvement.

RE: Indians Close To Signing Mark Reynolds
Maybe it's just me but I don't see the Red Sox faring much better this season than they did last season. Aside from Lester, they just don't have any starting pitcher that scares me.
