Re: Lovie close on 2yr extension
Lovie combined with Emery seems to be working so far this year. It's still a little too early IMO to extend his contract but I really like what I've seen this year. He still needs to beat GB though... When he was hired that was his main priority and he's not been able to do for over 2 years.

Not now. Also, he still doesn'thave a losting record against Green Bay. Granted thats only because he started out 6-2 and now has , Fairly sure he is 6-2 now. However, the Bears still have the best record against the NFC North since Lovie joined the team to today. That's pretty nice. I just prefer to deal with extensions the year before we lose a important player. Think this should've been done in July/August.
When in doubt, blame Cutler !

His record as a coach speaks for itself but towards the end of the season I want to see how this D plays and where it takes us. I've never been a huge fan of his between the 20s D but this year it seems like he's come around.

Re: Lovie close on 2yr extension
I like Lovie.
But, I think his job was SAVED due to the coaching staff AROUND him over the past couple of years. Rod/Tice are fantastic at what they do, and I think they really saved Lovie since many fans were calling for his head a few years back.

Rods running Lovies defense and Tice really hasnt done squat besides shuffle around garbage lineman and scream at Martz to run the ball more. His job was really saved by Peppers and Cutler. Coaches matter but this is a players league.

Re: Lovie close on 2yr extension
I'm willing to wait. What's the hurry?
That first half against Jax then the second half after a "Lovie 'tude" during halftime was pretty impressive.
I just wonder how many first halves versus second halves we'll be seeing the rest of the year.
It was the Jaguars people. Colts first game. Dallas is a mess. And the Rams was a bit of a struggle. All wins, yeah I know.
Let's see how he coaches against the "better teams". Won't be long to wait. And I have to admit, that list may have to include Minnesota.
Here's a stretch of games that may prove Lovie's worth:
Texans @ 49ers Vikings Seahawks @Vikings Packers
Now that's a stretch that will truly be indicative of Lovie's worth. So, let's slow down a bit. Let's see if Lovie has truly morphed into that successful head coach that all seem to be idolizing after this first quarter of the season.

RE: Lovie close on 2yr extension
I just dont understand all the people who discredit every single win.
Those bad first halfs are 100% on the offense. Not Lovies defense. Jay Cutler for some odd reason sucks in the 1st qtr. in the 4th he's got the 4th best passer rating in the NFL. But have we beaten such cake teams? The Rams are studs defensively. The Colts have beaten the Vikings and Packers. The Cowboys are talented enough to beat anyone. And the Jags just stink, which is why the Bears raped the everloving crap out of them defensively.
Theres two true tests to this team and thats the Texans and Niners. IMO, thats the two best teams in the league(my SB picks). Losing to those teams dont even tell the true tale of this team. Everyone else is rather mediocre. The Seahawks away from Seattle are chumps and they stink offensively. The Packers play offense the way they did vs us the first time around and theyll lose in CHI. Vikings are more of an unproven team than we are, considering we've played well the past two season with the same core.
This team has dominated inferior competition, rather than play down to their level like they have in the past. But i dont expect the usual Anti-Lovie crowd to give him any credit. It's not he's 9-1 in his last 10 with his starting QB. Oh wait....

RE: Lovie close on 2yr extension
Defense had their own issues against Jax....Was probably their worst half of the season....and I would bet Lovie's frustration was more the defense than the offense.
3rd and long conversions like 3-4 times....nothing pisses them off more.
And agreed on the Quality win arguments at this point of the season. I am fine with looking back and at the end of the year and really assessing who they beat. FOr example the Lions...the Lions went 0-6 against NFC playoff teams last year. IN the offseason you can kind of get a clearer picture in retrospect.
How dow we know how good the Rams are? How do we know how good the Colts are?
They sure as hell aren't 2-14 teams. So time will tell in that category....and the bears aren't just barely beating some of these teams.....They are embarrassing these teams.

Good.
The Bears would be hard pressed to find a replacement as good as Lovie...

3rd and long conversions like 3-4 times....nothing pisses them off more. 3 points. Thats all that matters. They had a couple drives and that happens vs the Bears. The run defense was still dominant vs one of the best and overall, the D gave up less than 200 yards. The game is much more than one half of football. Lets not go the Lions fans route. Short week on the road. Trap game. They did what they needed to do.

Yes 3 pts......but I would bet a lot of money....the frustration that Lovie was said to have in the locker room...Was because of the defense. THey need to get off the field and maintain the field position. The Bears had 500+yds of offense in that game....it wasn't all in the second half.

He expected to get off the field on 3rd downs. He expected them to get more pressures, hits and sacks vs a mediocre line. But when you look at the score at the half, the D did enough(not for Lovie). The offense didnt. That last Jaguar drive of the half was typical bend but dont break Bears D.

Re: Lovie close on 2yr extension
This is typical Bears. Why do this now? Why not wait to see what he does against the better teams. If he proves he can beat them, then fine. However, nobody can say Lovie has proven he can beat the better teams. In fact, he has been horrible at it. Absolutely no reason to do this now. We have 4 wins so far against probable non playoff teams and the best team we have played so far beat us. Just amused at this point and management is just another reason I can't get behind this version of the Bears.

Sean Jensen @ seankjensen # Bears GM Phil Emery makes clear that his preference is to handle negotiations of players or coaches during the offseason. If you cant get behind this version then gtfo already, like youve claimed to do so many times. You just keep coming back for more. I swear ive never seen such a whiney ass clown when his team is 4-1. Go cheer for your beloved Patriots and drool over their massive collection of TEs.
