RE: Orlando Pace
I agree, another example of putting the aging vet ahead of developing talent and risking hurting that talent. (think: Booker, Brown, ect. ect.)

Yeah because the Bears drafts picks at OL (and there been a lot of them) have been FABULOUS. What you want dumba$$? Do you want Quaism Mitchell (He gets tired but is so athletic), Terrance Metcalf, Steve Edwards, (the list goes on), back ? Seriously. Do you?? Geez! Think before speaking! "Nice to meet you. I mean, you kinda suck, but my dad says you might be good some day". Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski on meeting Jay Cutler (South Park cia 2007)

Should've kept St.Clair, he actually didn't do that bad.

Re: Orlando Pace
It's not just Pace though (although I agree, he's gotta go) it's Kruetz as well. I think next year we'll have to do the following: 1. Move Williams to LT (his natural position) 2. Retain Garza 3. Replace everyone else If we do NOTHING else next offseason, other than get healthy, and upgrade 3 of our 5 offensive line positions, this team is LIGHT years better than it is right now.

Sounds like a plan to me. But they will never do it.

Actually if I remember right they did try to re- sign St Clair but he signed with the Browns. I think he wanted a lot of money, although my memory might be faulty about that. I think he wanted something in the neighborhood of starter left tackle money.

I think he wanted something in the neighborhood of starter left tackle money. You could be right Drake. I thought that we got Frank OMG and that signial the end of St. Clair as a Bear but that could been because St. Clair was going to leave. Looking back on it, we should have given him the starter left tackle money. After all, we gave it to Pace and he is played like a scrub!
Williams btw has been brutal too. I rather them just give Shafer a chance and see what he can do and let Williams ride the pony. A change a week I guess until we get it right. "Nice to meet you. I don't think Omiyale had anything to do with it.

Cleveland gave him $9 mil for 3 years, but only guaranteed $1.25 mil of that. Not sure what the Bears guaranteed in their offer.

Not quite. There is a reason Cutler is always able to roll/scramble to his right: because normally there is less/no pressure coming from that side of the line.

Re: Orlando Pace
It's sad, I thought Pace was improving week, by week until the Cincy game, and yesterday he looked VERY OLD! I hate to say it, but the time has come to move Williams to Left Tackle and either put Shaffer or Omiyale in at Right Tackle. Kruetz gets a pass because Beekman is in at Left Guard. and that's the only reason!

I think that he runs to the right mostly because he is right handed. Just the natural direction to go.

RE: Orlando Pace
I think the right side of the line has been better, but I haven't studied it. Both sides are bad though, especially against the run. I was fine with letting St. Clair go. He didn't do badly last season, but I think they called a lot of short passes to protect St. Clair from screwing up too badly. They are trying to go longer now, but the O-line cannot protect Cutler very well. I wanted to see Hanie in the fourth quarter yesterday to spare Cutler from taking more hits.

Re: Orlando Pace
I haven't really paid too much attention to Pace, but when I have he seems to do a decent job of riding his man back to the QB which calls for Cutler to step up into the pocket. That may be problematic since Cutler has zero pocket awareness.

Re: Orlando Pace
Evidently, different ones than you!! How many times has Cutler taken off and picked up positive yards after the pocket collapsed? A handful of times. How many times has he hung in the pocket thinking the rush has passed him by only to still get hit? COUNTLESS. edit: Jay has 90 yards rushing, 1/3 of them came on one play though.
