I hope the prima donna attitude stayed in New York.

Re: Santonio Holmes

Why now and not right after the wilson injury??? I feel like I feel our WR's have done pretty well so far, except Weems. He should be cut right now, he has NO function besides experience at this point. I've liked what I've seen from the WR's and really felt like we were going to be cutting some talent. This has me scratching my head a bit.

Wonder why he wasn't signed a week & a half ago when he was worked out.  Would've been good for everybody to see him in Thursday's preseason game...

We'll never know. Maybe there were more issues than we could see with backups. Holmes could have also wanted too much cash and they needed to let the market dictate things.

Not a bad move; I think they needed to sign a veteran. Maybe he has something left in the tank. I think Bowl might be right on with the money part.

Re: Santonio Holmes

I assume the smart thing would be to give him no guarantees. He probably wanted them.

I saw on another board he'll be cut by week 5, from someon else. What I don't mind about the signing is if he becomes a problem, Wilson should be back by then. If they signed him for a reasonable amount then cutting him if he causes drama is no big deal.

Bottom line is I don't see him as part of this team at the end of the season!

I seem to recall him returning punts in Pittsburgh & NYJ.  Bye-bye Weems?

My guess is that Bears are still not happy with any of their potential punt returners.

I wonder what will happen to Weems now. I don't think he'll make the team.

Re: Santonio Holmes

Bottomline is if he is on the roster week1 his salary is guaranteed and will be on the team.

The Bears did their due diligence. They worked him out and wanted to see if that is the route they wanted to go.

Another injury to Miller and a poor performance by Eric Weems, might have ignited the need a little more.

It's a two week tryout...if he's healthy and can run he will make it.

If Chris Williams can get back on the field he can probably knock Weems off the roster.

Will be real hard to keep a hurt Chris Williams and Marquis Wilson. So Williams better get healthy or he is probably out.

But at this point I don't see Ford making this roster and not sure who else would return kicks.

Need another body. Bears already worked him out. Have a couple weeks to look at him further before committing.

I see no problem with this.

Re: Santonio Holmes

Holmes seems to be a Good veteran fit in the slot with Alshon and B Marsh. Slot has become a need with Wilson getting hurt and I am sure they thought Miller could be a good slot TE. Weems is not impressive at all. Morgan and Bellamy are good as 4th and 5th WR's but not 3's IMO. Chris Williams is a back up and KR, and with his injury we haven't seen enough to know what his potential is.

Re: Santonio Holmes

Two weeks to PROVE it.

Hopefully BMarsh will have a heart-to-heart discussion with him about attitude and team building. Guy has the talent when he wants to play. Showed it when he had Ben throwing to him. The Jets QB's the past four years were what they were.
Still going to be a shootout with Morgan, Spurlock, and Bellamy IMO ...at least until Williams and Wilson can return. Who knows about Weems.

I just know that if he sticks for regular season, the 3rd game with Jets, that's what all the media morons will be focused on before the game.

Re: Santonio Holmes

We're dangerously thin at WR. What if Josh Morgan gets injured? Signing Santonio makes sense, at least in light of the Marquis and Chris Williams injuries. (and both aren't even proven at the NFL level)

If Holmes was the #1 then yes he probably was a cancer. Here he has no leg to stand on, it's Marshall who in charge of the WR corps, no question.

Re: Santonio Holmes

I'll say the diva attitude won't last in Chicago long.  B-Marsh has set the tone.  So I think Holmes will do ok here.  I think at his age, he is smart enough to know the situation he is coming into.

If he is coming in to return kicks and just that, I'd be happy with that. If he is coming here to contend for the 3rd slot.. hey earn it, and I am happy with that.

Re: Santonio Holmes

He is a 5th receiving option. People keep talking about an attitude. Exactly what kind of attitude is a street fee agent who signs for the minnimum going to have. Might be the last chance at his career.

Let's not make it more then it is. Low risk high reward.

Yeah, nobody was beating down his door to offer him a deal.  This is probably his last shot.  And if he does mouth off, then they can just send his *** out the door.  Don't think a guy in his situation would be that stupid, though.  He will get his two weeks to prove himself.
