Who ya got?! - Bears best safeties

Since Conte and Steltz are back now who do you see as our best tandem? I think Conte and Wilson. I know a lot of you hate Conte and I can't say I'm a big fan either. I think he is the best of our choices. Vreen is a rookie 4th rounder. I know he's been talked up but I think he's been with the second team for a reason. I think though he could be good down the road. Mundy and the others are journey men for reasons. Your thoughts...?

Tossup between Wilson and Mundy at SS. Will have to see more.  Danny McCray at FS, but still a shootout with Vereen.  Conte's gonna have to prove himself, but I just don't know if he can with his poor tackling.

Seattle should provide a good test.

If they carted out a tree stump and placed it somewhere down the field it would put more fear in a offensive player than Conte.

As far as Vereen they usually throw round 3+ picks down the line up and give the vets the 1st chance at keeping the starting roles.  I hope he shows the staff that he's worthy of starting because I'm done with Conte.

I like Wilson and hope he shows why he went to multiple pro bowls.  He should solidify one of the spots the potential is there.

The thing I liked about Wilson is he's a 'thumper' ! Hits hard, but has technique to do it right / avoid penalties. Fuller showed similar.
Demontre Hurst and Al Louis-Jean showed good mechanics / game presence.

Conte said today that he did a lot of soul searching this offseason and can't wait to show all of his naysayers wrong.

Translation: I'm worried that I'm as bad as everyone thinks I am, and I'm gonna try real hard but my mental blocks are going to be my ultimate doom.

I started reading that article and couldn't finish it... When a player says he has to block out criticism and found who his true friends are usually means he's broke and knows it.  If you cannot handle criticism (after the sh!t storm he fielded all last year) then you shouldn't be playing pro football.  Every remark, every countless thread and article was warranted and how did he react to that?  He totally whiffed on the last play of the season to the fn Packers killing our 1st chance at knocking GB out and the Bears going to the playoffs.  Ya block that out Conte....  Go to Tampa and be with the S whisperer lol.

Personally, I think conte and Wilson are probably the best talent at the safety position right now, but I really need to see what Conte looks like before making a real call. Is he gonna baby the shoulder and it affect his tackling again? Is he gonna take better angles? He has the athleticism but is he mentally there?

Conte can be decent when he's not being asked to play LB with a bum shoulder.

I'm hoping for Wilson and Vereen, but neither one sounds like they're stepping up.

I think Mundy will be an upgrade over Wright.

I would like to see a combination of Mundy and McCray. I know Mundy is not the true cover safety everyone wants, but I think he is more assignment sound than Conte and McCray has me intrigued with his size and athleticism.

I don't have any idea who's going to start. I really don't. But I am fairly certain who won't start. That would be Craig Steltz and MD Jennings.

Who is this McCray guy.

I know nothing about him.

Anything would be an upgrade over Major Wrong. At least Conte tries and now we know he was playing injured.

At this point, I'm hoping A.Wilson still has gas in the tank. Friday he did.

Maybe Bears platoon safety with Wilson, Mundy, McCray, Vereen, Steltz ( for ST if healthy ), and Marcus Trice.
M.D. Jennings has to show more.

Conte ? Big bubble, but if we cut him he'll be picked up elsewhere.

I still think that the best starting combo would be Mundy at FS and Wilson at SS. I know that the coaches took several looks at that combination in TC and I'm not sure how they felt about it. But as far as experience, sure tackling and leadership goes, that seems like the better combo...to me anyways.

Conte and Mundy with a slight chance of Vereen.   I don't think Wilson makes the team.  He is 34 and out of football for a year.

My thoughts exactly 100%. Conte and Mundy, could see Vereen over Conte because of the upside in youth.
