ORTON CUT

ORTON CUT

The Cowboys just did something very dumb IMO and released Kyle Orton.  He has said he's going to retire, and they called his bluff.

I think we should at least kick the tires and give either him or his agent a call.  He is MUCH better than Clausen and Palmer, and he can probably be had fairly inexpensive (assuming he wants to play that is).

I always liked ole' neckbeard, and feel that he has come into his own in the last couple of years. Anybody who watched the Cowboys season finale last year saw him look real good against the Eagles 'D', something nobody on our team did a week earlier, Jay included.   His arm strength is vastly improved from his 2005 rookie campaign, and his decision making has always been very, very good.

Again, not sure if he would, but I would be real happy about our backup Q.B. position going into 2014 if we could pull this off.  coolcoolcool

Re: ORTON CUT

Cutting him was all they could do. He made it clear he was not returning to football and they had to move on.

He is losing 3 million dollars by letting the cowboys cut him. I doubt anyone would pay more than that for him, and he knows that so it's pretty obvious he wanted to be done with football and not just the cowboys.

I wouldn't mind having him as a backup either but it's not going to happen.

1 day contract so he retires a Bear. I'd like that.

Yes, then retire his number and put him in the ring of honor.

I think Orton is done with football. It sounds like the Cowboys gave Orton a parting gift by cutting him so he could keep his full signing bonus. I would imagine he and Cowboys management had a discussion and came to a mutual agreement to split. I would imagine Orton is probably burned out on football and probably ready for the next chapter in his life.

He still gets 3 million of 5 million from bonus. If the girls would of just let him retire, they could of saved that and the hit against the cap for 2 yrs. from the bonus.

Good for him. Now he has the time to start up that hemp depository he's always dreamed of. Hey, it's medicinal! Happy trails Kyle.

Re: ORTON CUT

True but he's leaving 3 mil on the table still in salary. Just points out he's done, and isn't just trying to go to another team. That was the point.

No, they didn't talk. Orton hasn't responded to them at all, and his agent instructed the Cowboys to stop trying to contact him.

Orton is a smart guy. He got the most out of a limited amount of talent. I have really come to appreciate that type of marginal athlete who through hard work makes some money and moves on. A grinder.

It's kind of funny if you think about it. Kyle Orton won't return Jerry Jones calls.

Re: ORTON CUT

You can bet that KO's agent will be getting a call when the first starting QB goes down. He'll be selective, though.

Re: ORTON CUT

Meh. I've never been overly impressed with Orton. I don't think he'll be in high demand injury strikes any more than any other veteran QB. He's just a guy IMO.

Too late he pulled out so much Soupy fried his keyboard. Mom & Dad are now taking his allowance away for the next few months to pay for it. biggrin

But all joking aside, if it wasn't for the crazy Orton worshippers, I definitely like to see the Bears bring him back. Massive upgrade over Clausen & Palmer plus he proved he can still help you win some games with his performance against Philly last year. Be also a good mentor for Fales as well.

Re: ORTON CUT

According to Jerry Jones, Orton intends on playing this year. I think he could be an instant starter in Houston. He's the top free agent QB on the market.

Re: ORTON CUT

I'm already on record here, but I'll repeat:  We could do a LOT worse at backup Q.B. than Kyle Orton.
We would be VERY lucky if we could resign him and go with him if/when Jay goes down over Clausen or Palmer.

Arm is improved, and he's always been smart.  Pretty good qualities one looks for in a backup IMO.
