Week 1 just got a little easier

Bills LB Kiko Alonso tore his ACL working out. Huge blow for the Bills and Gym Shortz defense.

I think the biggest blow for the Bills defense was when the hired good ol Gym. I'll miss that turd in the NFCN.

I don't want the games to get easier. I want every team at full strength so we play the best at their best. It makes us better which means  a better chance of getting to the Super Bowl!

It was a sad day in the NFCN when old Gym Shortz was let go.

As it is, the Bears should beat the Bills regardless of how healthy the Bills are. If they don't, then we might all need to rethink how good the Bears are this year.

You never want to see people get injured. That's a shame. However last year teams feasted on the Bears injury depleted D. Teams aren't going to go easy on you just because you are playing 2nd or 3rd stringers out of necessity.

Week one should be a Cakewalk...

Here are the opening lines I posted about a month ago:

==========================================

Opening lines for WEEK 1 of the NFL season.
NFL Lines For Week 1 - NFL Football Line Week One  NFL Line 9/4 - 9/8, 2014
Date & TimeFavoriteLineUnderdogTotal

I think the surprises I see in the lines above are:

* Mildly surprised at Detroit being 4 point favorites vs the Giants.

* Moderately surprised at GB being more than a FG dog.

* Mildly surprised that TB's a home dog.

Re: Week 1 just got a little easier

If the Bears couldn't beat the Bills at home even with Alonso, they wouldn't do anything against better teams the rest of the season.

The Bills have a bunch of talent on defense and Schwartz has a good track record as a DC, not to mention they drafted Sammy Watkins. It's a game the Bears should win, but it's pretty silly to completely dismiss them.

Ok... Can I direct everyone to the word "should" that I used in my initial post. I didn't discount the 'any given Sunday' phenomenon the can strike in this league. Please disregard my initial reply.

Re: Week 1 just got a little easier

I agree. And even with our injuries last year, we beat some teams that surely expected to beat us.

Besides that, I don't agree with all the sentiment around here that the defense is fixed and good to go. Not sure why it seems to be such a forgone conclusion. We don't know squat about the new line yet, and the backfield has more holes than a European cathouse. I'll beleive it when I see it.

For those reasons, I won't be dismissing the Bills at all. Or any other team for that matter.

Not to mention that they have some interesting skill position guys.  Jackson and Spiller are a nice RB duo.  Watkins, Williams, Woods, Goodwin and Graham look like the makings of a good group of WR's with some size and speed.  Chandler's a good TE.  I guess it all depends on whether or Manuel takes a second year leap but I thought he looked pretty good last year.

This! Let us not forget that the Bears still have Tucker as DC. I am totally unimpressed with him. Further, the Defense is learning a new system and new techniques. They kept the old system last year on the premise that they could maintain productivity that way and then got burned in large part by injuries. that means that even they know changing systems involves a learning curve that can reduce productivity. AND AGAIN, TUCKER!

True, and I think it was last year the patriots barely squeaked by in their week 1 contest against the bills. Almost knocked me out of a suicide pool in the first week.
