It never ceases to amaze me how people with more than enough money to hire a limo find themselves driving a vehicle intoxicated or on suspension. How hard is it for someone with his money to hire a driver temporarily? Or ask a family member to drive you? That costs nothing.

Scary thing is it could been much worse. At least he wasn't wasted at the wheel.

Re: Washington arrested

Not to minimize an arrest, since that is a bit of a big deal, but he was speeding with a suspended license. It's not the smartest thing in the world, but trust me if you scanned the weekly police blotter this is a fairly common occurrence. I use to type up a weekly police report for a small newspaper in a small county and there was about one of these a week. People speed and people forget to get their licenses renewed. I'll give this guy a slight pass, since I imagine his work and travel schedule probably makes it easy to forget something like a license renewal.

As far as the hiring a driver, this guy is only in the second year of a sixth round draft pick contact. I'm sure he's doing better than most, but it's not like he's just making bank.

Why not a taxi cab? or a limo? Cheap enough, even for a rookie contract.

Re: Washington arrested

Suspended license is different than not renewing your license.  You can have a valid license but still be suspended.

Suspensions are for a lot of reasons.  Could be for something simple like too many unpaid parking tickets or for something big like a DUI or mental problems.   Other reasons include not paying child support or not having insurance.  I'd like to know WHY his license was suspended.

If some business person making 60K a year can afford to hire a limo to take them to the airport, then surely someone making half a million dollars can hire one to take them out on the town.  I'm not saying you have to hire a full time butler with a Rolls Royce to chauffeur you around.  It really isn't all that expensive to call a limo service.  And presumably he has family that can help him with everyday things like trips to the grocery store.

It's minor in the grand scheme, but the suspended license always annoys me. It's really not hard to have a valid driver's license. Not a big deal, but it gives off a "the rules don't apply to me" attitude and that's never a good look on anybody, athlete or not.

Re: Washington arrested

If he at least made a play or two and shown something, maybe it would be worth overlooking this.  But he's  never lived up to his potential, in college or with the Bears.  Driving on a suspended license is indicative of a lack of common sense and responsibility.  I'd rather the Bears give an opportunity to a person who is a little more with it.

That's the relevant question, and did he even know about it?  I had mine suspended and didn't know it until it was time to be reinstated.

A license can be suspended and the person not even knowing that it is suspended especially when you live in two different states.

Oh and don't we want speed out of our DEs.

Ahh please, you don't need to be David Rockefeller to hire a driver. He's making many times over the poverty index figure.  I won't give him a pass...this is a player that is supposed to be out to prove himself, because he has boom or bust written all over him, and so far he's showing to be closer to the "bust" side.  He needs to get his **** together and get a clue.

Lets not act like getting a speeding ticket is a big deal.

Depending on why the license was originally suspended, this could be nothing.

Indeed.  You've got to wait for the details.  I don't know how other states work but a lot of times Illinois never even lets you know it's suspended your license or revoked your cars registration.

For example, this past week I had a friend who was pulled over and arrested because her boyfriend had let his SR22 form expire.  He had been in an uninsured car accident some years back and the SR22 was court mandated.  It wasn't the boyfriends fault though... he's been dead for 3 years.  Car wasn't even registered in his name anymore (it's under her name now), but some idiot in some states office somewhere saw that the SR22 wasn't renewed and revoked the cars registration about a year ago (even though it was under a different name).

I know it's an extreme example, but I've got other friends who were pulled over and arrested for other stupid reasons that they were completely unaware of.

agree.

It could be absolutely nothing, it could be a symptom of a deeper attitude. We simply don't know the player. But I do know that any distractions when you are trying to fight for a roster spot, which he is, are unwelcome.
