Is Chris Conte Snake Bit?

Is Chris Conte Snake Bit?

I know that Conte lubbers hate to read this, but just for fun I wanted to say that when you thought the guy's life couldn't get any more miserable, now he catches some illness, so Trestman had him excused from Mini Camp practices because he thought that what Conte has is contagious.   It's bad enough that Conte can't practice yet, but at least he wants to be on the sidelines supporting the team and at best getting himself mentally ready for when he's healed. But it seems that the second coming of Adam Archuleta can't even hit a beach ball square.

Absolutely patheticbiggrin

Adam Archuleta is such a different situation, I don't see the comparison. Both are white... As Bears both have not been good. I wouldn't say Contes life is miserable, he's a professional football player for the Chicago Bears. He's a mess health wise right now. Oh and Archuleta has a smoking hot wife. That's always important to note.

I'm sure many agree but I'm pulling for Brock Vareen. I'm done seeing Conte.

Conte sucks.  One of the worst Bears safeties I can remember.  I hope he gets cut in TC because I sure don't want us relying on him ever again.  Last year he was a one man wrecking crew--for opposing offenses.

Opposing offenses have scrapped the flag route and post route. They just use the conte route.

Re: Is Chris Conte Snake Bit?

Conte is like one of those NY Mets players who everyone hates.  It's hard to look at those types of players as they always draw the ire of the fans.  They can make 9 good plays but as soon as they make one bad play everyone starts in on them.  Those are the types of players you have to flush out of the system fast.  There is no reason for him to be on the roster if any of the drafted players and FA pick ups are viable.

He is nothing but a reminder of 8 years of Lovie Smith's inability to find a safety.  They all have been the same type of player.  Good athlete, bad football instincts.  Mannings FA year was probably the best year a Bears safety has had, you have to go back to Mike Brown pre-injuries to find a quality player at that position....well, over ten years ago.

Ha! The Conte Route: straight line to the end zone. If Conte happens to grab on he'll just tag along for the ride.

Everyone was on Contes nuts his first two seasons. I never liked him but it wasnt until last season where everyone saw him for the turd that he is.

You can't put it all on Lovie, Hardin was a crap pick too.

You're wrong man. Everything bad is on Lovie. Everything good is on Emery.

Time to get over Lovie blame. He's gone, and so are most of his guys. It's the Emery era now, and he hasn't proven jackshit on defense yet. Hopefully that changes this year.

Dude, you haven't been paying close enough attention. If you noticed Conte's comments this offseason, you'd know that he has taken to heart all the criticism of the fans for his pathetic play, and he's very unhappy about it. He has been very hard on himself, but hates to be vilified by the fans.  Forget the money he makes or his status as a pro...that doesn't guarantee you happiness.

I compared Conte to Adam Archuleta because AA sucked in his last year as a Bear as much as Conte did last year.

Re: Is Chris Conte Snake Bit?

I agree, the only real similarities are they're both white guys and they both played poorly for the Bears. Archuletta was a 1'st round pick who actually was a pretty good strong safety early in his career before going south and failing on two teams. Conte is a center fielder who was a mid-round corner convert.

You are correct, I haven't been paying close attention. Not to Contes statements at least. Maybe he is unhappy about everyone's comments. Maybe deep down he's a millionaire and doesn't care. But to say can his life get any more miserable or whatever was said? I'm sorry, it can be a lot worse. Maybe I'm just cold hearted towards guys who make a fortune playing this worlds greatest sport on what I biasedly believe is this leagues greatest franchise.

That's not bias, that's fact! I hear what you're saying though. One thing I will say in defense of the football players being overpaid is they're not the only ones. Many of the top european soccer players are making as much and in some cases more. Jim Carey walkes on the movie set, does a few back flips, makes some funny faces and he gets $20 million even if the movie bombs. I agree they're overpaid but at least they can say they put their anatomy on the line unlike the people from many of the other overpaid jobs.

I think the fairest pro sport has to be golf. The winners get paid.

I'm using 'miserable' in a relative term..It's not in the same context as a hobo pushing carts on the streets, looking for food in a dumpster. I'm sure he's miserable, compared to a Brandon Marshall, who just got a contract extension, and BM is still clicking on all cylinders.  Conte might be on his way outta town if Vereen continues to impress the coaches, so his status as a Bear and even his livelihood is shaky right now.  And given that not only he sucked so bad last year, but he's also coming off an injury, I'm not sure what teams would be desperate knocking on his door if that were to happen.  Not getting ahead of myself, just stating what could be, and that thought HAS to be stressing him out.

I've been reading a lot of positive things about Vereen. Who knows, Emery might have found a mid round gem. Guess we will see. This time of year for the most part everyone looks good because it's mostly hypothetical.

Read a coaches comment about Vereen. They said "he doesn't make a lot of mistakes."

Sounded kind of like a backhanded jab at some of our guys who DO make mistakes.

Everything i read about him pre/during/post draft was high football IQ, great field awareness. When he was picked, imo he was the last prospect worth drafting. They even moved up to get him, correct? Last time Emery did that, Alshon mother fkn Jeffery. Lets hope he hits on this pick too.

Re: Is Chris Conte Snake Bit?

They said the exact same thing about Major Wright.  He was a leader, a guy who knew the position inside and out and would not make mistakes.  He wasn't the star athlete, which is why he was a third round pick, but he was athletic enough to make an impact.

don't go by what they say, go by what you see on gameday.  Maybe some of these guys will turn out to be big time players, but the the percentages say that they will not....but you never know.
