Skins Lose Patented Logo and Name Trademark Rights

I think this is the beginning of the end for their slur of a team name....

Link.

As a bonus, there's a link to USA Today's review of the NFCN (upper right hand corner)....  Erin lovers will want to clean themselves up afterwards... grab a box of wet-wipes before watching....

I think this is just plain stupid, and the thing is that most people are so stupid they agree with it. If i was Apache or Cherokee or whatever i would not be upset about them calling the team "Redskins". I would not even be upset with people calling me "Redskin", it is an accurate description. No different than calling me white.
If you called me an Indian i would be pissed. Just because some idiot Italian gets lost on his way to the West Indies does not make them "Indians". I would also be pissed if someone called me "Native American", they were here a long time before America existed. So, if i walk into your house and kick your ass and claim your house as mine does that make you a "Native Peanut"? I get political correctness, but this is flavour of the day correctness.
Next time i have to fill out Government paperwork i think i will  raise hell because they want me to mark "Caucasian" and i am offended by that.ohlord

It's absolutely ok for you to take offense - or not take offense - with how the race that you belong to is identified.  But to insert yourself into another race's shoes and say they shouldn't be offended is BS.  It's not your call.

You weren't previously referencing the Indians you knew...  But yeah, I know a lot of them don't mind... but I know that there some who do...

So, as far as this thread is concerned....

Re: Skins Lose Patented Logo and Name Trademark Rights

I agree to an extent without Peanut on this one. But also agree with what Behr said 100%.

That all being said, here's what it comes down to.  Let's keep it real about this.  The majority of people "upset" are for the vast majority "white". They also happen to have something to do with politics.   For the last how many years has the "N" Word been offensive to the vast majority. Now to some of us, it ALWAYS has been. But my point is this, most of us from as long as I have been alive actually and more so each and ever year have found word offensive.  However, "Redskin" is suddenly offensive more recently, but not during all this time beforehand. Now there are a lot of words that are suddenly offensive that never were to the vast majority in the past.

Now here is how I think it should be handled.  Hold a vote, where every half-full blooded Indian gets to have their voice heard.  Let them decide.

There is one word I find more offensive than Indian.  That word is:  Congress

All this means is that they can't use the circled R in their logo.  Will have no affect on the bottom line or their ability to protect the use of their logo.  Much more political than economical.

If you do not think it is offensive here is what I suggest you do.

Go into a bar that has a bunch of Native Americans in it, and start referring to them as Redskins.....I give you about 2 minutes before you start head butting their fists.

The name is racially offensive to Native Americans.  End of story.

I get that, walk into a bar and start referring to them as "Indians", you'll get the same result. End of Story. I would suggest using their name, that's what i do and i have still met the fist.noidea

I can tell you from experience, with a few i used to drink quite a bit with, the old stereotype about "firewater" is based in reality.

Christopher Columbus was not an Italian...that's one of the major misconceptions in history.  He was actually a Spaniard, from the Catalonia region of northeast Spain (where Barcelona is).  Columbus was trying to hide the fact that he was of Jewish background, because at that time, Jews were persecuted in Spain.

Most Native Americans are not offended by the name. Then again most Native Americans have bigger problems to deal with then a name of a football team like AngryMeatballFan showing up at their bar and start shouting at them for no good reason LOL!

Ultimately this is all about some ultra sensitive PC douches getting their panties in a wad over nothing. But regrettably that is the times we live in. I actually think it's kind of a douche name so if went away I wouldn't mind. But I also think they should be force to change it either. And who knows what PC pussy name they will give it now. I actually think Washington Warriors fits because it still honors their Indian heritage but also fits in the fact its located in our nations capital. I think Tony K. on ESPN has said something similar. But Warriors is way too anti-PC for this messed up world so I except something really stupid to be the new name.

This is another discussion entirely but that is not proven. He is claimed or rumoured to be one of many Nationalities, and possibly Jewish. From what i know he was born in Italy. We don't even know for sure where he is "Buried". Still a mystery. But as i said, that is way off topic.

Columbus was Italian. He was born in Genoa (Northern Italy) and was raised in Italy which included sailing for many Genoese traders ships. He only began to lobby the Spanish court because not only did he get shot down by Genoa and Venice but also England where his brother tried to lobby King Henry VII of England. If you were to talk with Columbus somehow he identify himself as being Genoese.

Good, now maybe Dan Snyder will reconsider his claim of never changing the name.
