Build Your All-Time Bears Team

Posted: 6/11/2014 1:06 PM

Build Your All-Time Bears Team

Kind of interesting.

It gives you a list of players with assigned values from 5 buck down to $1.  But seriously, if you're going against the rest of the League, just spend the 5bucks on the 85 Bears defense and a buck on the other positions and pocket the rest. (You get 20 bucks ttl to stock your team)

However, if you're building to beat other built Bears teams, I'd go:

QB  -  $3  -  McMahon  (didn't look pretty doing it, but he won. And he could beat the Pack)

RB  -  $3  -  Forte  (Great bargain here...  Payton would have been nice, but not necessary)

WR1 -  $3 - Curtis Conway

WR2 - $1 - Willie Gault  (The guy could (and still does) fly)

TE  -  $1  -  Emery Morehead (Bargain for a buck, and besides, everyone needs Morehead, right?)

ST  -  $4  -  Devin Hester  (In his prime?  Hell yeah.)

D   -  $5  -  85 Bears  ( 'nough said.)

What's you're team look like?

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

I gotta go a little different. I love the 85 defense but given today's WCO and other factors, I just do not think they would be as effective in todays NFL given the cost. I like balance and so I am looking at what I believe is a more balanced approach:

QB - $3 Jim Mac
RB - $3 Matt Forte
WR - $1 Tom Waddle
WR - $2 Marty Booker
TE - $5 Mike Ditka
D - $2 2006 Bears D
ST - $4 Devin Hester

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

I will go as follows

QB - $4 Jay Cutler ( because he is the best on the list, jimmy mac won because he had a team)

RB - $1 Neal Anderson (All you need is good enough)

WR1 - $5 Brandon Marshall (because he is the best)

WR2 -  $1 Willie Gault (he led the team in 85, and he did not have Marshall)

TE - $3 Desmond Clark (cause i can't afford the Black Unicorn or Da Coach)

ST - $1 Patrick Mannelly (cause at the end of the day, it's only special teams)

D - $5 1985 Bears (because defense wins championships)

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

QB - Cutler ($4): The best arm talent on the list.

RB - Sweetness ($5): Arguably the greatest EVER at the position. No-brainer.

WR1 - Marshall ($5): Top 3-5 receiver in the league for a couple of years now, and likely the best the Bears have ever had by a wide margin. No-brainer.

WR2 - Gault ($1): Speedy deep threat to complement The Beast.

TE - The Panther ($2): Good receiver at the TE position. Sucks he wasn't a better blocker, I liked him.

ST - Mannelly ($1): Durable, high-character guy for a vet minimum contract? I'll take it.

D - '06 ($2): Couldn't afford the '85 D, but this was a solid group. I was a bit surprised, honestly - figured the only other defense to make it to the Super Bowl would get a little more love.

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

Jay Cutler -tempted to go with McMahon or Kramer here, but Cutler's got the arm and I'm going to assume he's playing behind a stellar offensive line.

Neal Anderson - One of the most underrated Bears ever.  For about a three year period he was about as good as anyone in the NFL.  I remember being in fantasy football back then and he and Thurman Thomas were considered the top backs for a brief period from a fantasy standpoint.

Greg Olsen- Pretty good pass-catching TE.  Good rapport with Cutler.

Brandon Marshall- Marshall and Cutler?  We already know how that turns out.  100+ receptions.

Willie Gault-  Gotta pair Marshall with the Olympic speedster.  Even if he's only a decoy, opening things up for Marshall, Olsen, and Anderson underneath.   Deadly WR tandem.

Dennis Gentry-  Another one of those underrated Bears.  He had a knack for moving the chains in 3rd down situations.

'85 Bear defense-  Best, most ferocious, most intimidating defense in NFL history.  I gotta have 'em on my side.

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

QB-Erik Kramer ($2)...until Cutler came around, this was the only good QB that I've ever seen. Not that McMahon wasn't good, I was like 5 when he played

RB-Walter Payton ($5) idol and all-time favorite sports figure ever! I cried the day I heard the news of his passing.

TE-Emery Moorehead ($1)...I wanted to roll with Dickfingers, but apparently his greatness couldn't be afforded.

ST-Devin Hester ($4)...The greatest return man to EVER play the game.

WR1-Tom Waddle ($1)...Great value. I really enjoyed watching Waddle play. He caught everything thrown at him.

WR2-Alshon Jeffery ($5)...I personally feel that this kid is barely scratching the surface for how good he can be.

DEF-2006 Bears ($2)...This was one of the best defenses in league history. Teams just couldn't score on them and they took the ball away at will. Unfortunately, our HC and GM didn't feel that offense was that important.

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

I suppose a lot of you are too young to remember the 1985 Bears defense,  but any of us picking that defense are going to beat your teams.  Easily.   The '85 (and '86) defense just annihilated, terrorized, demoralized, their opponents (okay, except for the Dolphins one night) so thoroughly that if you didn't see it you wouldn't believe it.

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

Those of you that listed Marshall as your #1 WR's win. The same can pretty much be said for Cutty as well.

Two of the best we've had at their positions. Jay just needs that one huge season but I know its coming.

Re: Build Your All-Time Bears Team

I'm going to break some rules here and work Sayers to death:

QB - Cutler $4
RB - Sayers $4
WR - Marshall $5
WR - Gault $1
TE - Morehead $1
ST - Sayers and Gault $0 (already paid for them)
D - '85 $5

Some random observations:

The '85 D is the only no brainer for me.  Best defense of all time.  Losing Les Frazier in the SB was one of the quiet undoings of that team.

Kramer sucked.  He was Rex Grossman.  He had one big year when they had two good WR's that bailed him out and an awful defense that led to high scoring games.

Johnny Morris, Harlon Hill, and BU for $4? Have our receiving corps really been that bad??

Love to have Ditka or Payton but where do you skimp?

Jeffrey needs to prove it for a couple more years to warrant $5

'63 was before my time but my grandpa used to always say they were better then '85, just less flashy
