Round 1 Busts...

Round 1 Busts...

Who do you think of those that were drafted in the first round will turn out to be busts?

My top 2 are:  Manziel, and believe it or not Clowney.

I live in SC and watched him a lot last year, not too impressive, lot of ego though. He made his rep on one terrific tackle, and he is fast, I don't see him as an outside lb, just my opinion. Whats yours?

1. Johnny Manziel
2. Johnny Manziel
3. Johnny Manziel

His bust will be so epic, it deserves the top three spots. God I wish the queens drafted him. I really thought they would. Maybe they'll over pay to sign him away from Cleveland when he fails there like those idiots did with Freeman.

Clinton-Dix

Only cause I want the Packers to have wasted a 1st round draft pick.

But, my most likely guess is that Marcus Smith, Eagles will be a bust, mostly due to injury risk. Even healthy, I think he was drafted way too soon. Course I thought that about Bruce Irvin as well, and he turned out better than I expected, although has missed time.

Re: Round 1 Busts...

Khalil Mack- for no other reason than a hunch and the fact he's playing for the raiders
Blake Bortles- huge reach
Clinton-Dix- he was the one safety I didn't want the bears to draft but if the packers fix their rush I could see him being successful. I just don't think he does anything particularly 1st round worthy.
Justin Gilbert- Could go either way but I'll take bust

You all may remember him as Joe the Policeman from the "What's going down" episode of That's My Mama. Put your hands together, for Jackson Heights own, Randy Watson.

HaHa.  Not a big fan going into the draft.  I think he'll be decent at best.

Agreed on Ha Ha...highly overrated IMO.  Another possible bust is Manziel.  He could go the way of Brady Quinn

Re: Round 1 Busts...

I don't think HaHa will be a bust, but he won't be a Pro Bowler either.  He'll start and probably be an average-to-good safety, which the Packers would happily take coming off last season's disaster at the position.

The easiest predictions for bust, given the history of draft busts would be the quarterbacks.  Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater all could fail.  I could easily see Derek Carr having a better career than the first round guys.

Gotta say I would put my money on Ward, Easley, or Mike Evans being busts out of the first round. Of course, any of them could end up being busts. There is no such thing as a sure thing.

Re: Round 1 Busts...

Clinton-Dix is a stiff.

I don't think Bridgewater will translate well to the NFL. The amount of air he puts under his passes will allow NFL DB's to take advantage of their make-up speed to make plays, IMO.

I also don't like Bradley Roby. He gets beat badly by double moves and out-and-ups due to bad hip movement/placement. I always think players like this who rely on speed or natural ability over technique have a high potential bust factor at the NFL level.

Re: Round 1 Busts...

I didn't do any of the "scouting" I usually do, so this is all based on a pretty limited amount of info:

I think Bridgewater will be decent, but someone needs to fix his mechanics if he's gonna live up to the Russell Wilson potential he has. He was well worth the risk for Minnesota though.

I don't really see it in Barr though. That was too much of a boom or bust pick for my liking. I don't think he's athletic enough to be the Von Miller type they want him to be.

Justin Gilbert is along those same lines for me, but my gut feeling is that he goes the other way and develops into a solid player. Definitely a boom or bust pick though, and he's going to struggle early on. Roby is similar.

I think Ebron is going to be the tight end equivalent of Nick Fairley for the Lions. Flashes of greatness but maddeningly inconsistent. They should have taken ODB.

Deone Buchanon and Dominique Easley are easy targets since they were "reaches" but I don't see it in either player. I think Easley's injury history limits him and saps his explosiveness early.

Marcus Smith OTOH was a reach that I really liked. Not sure about Miami's reach. My guess is decent NFL starter that Miami fans hate because he doesn't become a Pro Bowler.

Not gonna pretend I know anything about Manziel. I don't think he can start on team that can win a Super Bowl, but that's not saying a ton.
