OT: Dan McNeil on leave of absence...

OT: Dan McNeil on leave of absence...

http://articles.chicagotribune...-issues-absence

I didn't see this as a topic and quite frankly, I didn't realized it until today but apparently McNeil is on leave of an absence. Obviously I am not a fan of the guy but he seems to be fighting some real demons and wish nothing but the best with that and hopes he overcomes it.

That being said, not only is the midway show so much better without him (and Holmes in) but even the other shows have picked their act up a bit, well at least B&B.

I really like Lawrence Holmes. I can pick up the score at night time here in Michigan and usually listen to him on my way to work when I'm working night shift. What time is he on during the day now?

Holmes is on with Spiegel now from 9-1 weekdays. It's even called "Holmes & Spiegel". Given how well it's been received, I be surprised if Holmes gets his gig back, at least that slot.

Re: OT: Dan McNeil on leave of absence...

Been wondering where he went.

Hate to be so blunt, but he can take a forever leave of absence from the Score.  I hope he gets through his personal issues okay, but to be honest he's about as stupid and reactionary as it gets with sports radio hosts, so I really couldn't care less if he returns.  I never understood bringing him back in the first place.

I've been enjoying Holmes and I don't see how they wouldn't at least consider making him and Spiegs into a new show.  They seem to work well together.

On another Score note, Mark Grote today said he went into rehab for alcoholism.  Hopefully he's able to get through his issues.

What is up with sports radio and alcoholism? Seems like the third or fourth guy in Chicago sports radio that has gone to rehab for alcohol abuse??

And I agree, Spiegs and Holmes are great together. I don't think they will throw McNeil on his fat butt I seriously doubt he will get his midday slot back. He might be a floater or something now.

Anything is better than Ben Finfer or however you spell it. I heard some of him the other day and nearly puked.

Holmes is the best host on the Score by far.   Level headed and funny at times.  He does a nice job paired with Speigel.

They at least try to have an intelligent conversation as opposed to just stoking fans' tempers like the others.

Holmes paired with Speigal is easily the best Chicago has had in awhile. Hopefully SCORE brass figures that out as well.

Holmes and Spiegel is a good listen.  McNeil sounded abrasive to me.  He talked too loud, and didn't have much interesting to say, and not very insightful.  I wish him the best, but when he was on I found myself clicking off more often.

Who are the other examples? I haven't followed that closely.

Harry who used to be on ESPN 1000 with McNeil had to go into rehab not too long ago, Mike North as well.

Agree with both of these points. Yet only one of them really matters: healing himself from his addiction that could eventually claim his life. He's made money. He's had success. He needs recovery and I hope he finds it. I think he's redundant and reflexively negative in a very boring, predictable way on the radio. But I wish him well in life.

Not a fan of their show anymore though they gotten better since McNeil went on leave when I have listened. I swear that guy just drags everyone down. I am sure their callers will be entertaining but the best show after a Bears loss is Doug & OB. Poor OB is going to have a heart attack on the air one day!
