Jerry Angelo to write for thesidelineview.com
Just sharing what Lance Zierlein tweeted an hour ago. Dont know what he'll be talking about, but it'll be interesting to hear independent thoughts from the guy who pretty much built the Bears team as we know it today. It should be up tonight. thesidelineview.com/

That's awesome. Someone link the article when it goes up. I liked the guy, and I think he understands how to build a successful team....I'm just not sure about his actual offensive scouting ability.

That is a very solid decade. Not great but very solid especially when you consider the disaster the Bears were the previous decade.

Not successful enough to win the big one. That's not sustained success. That's not even being a perennial successful team. 95-81 ..., thats slightly more than a 500 % team. That,s football hell.

You really need to stack up the Bears accomplishments over that time period and compared to the rest of the league. Sorry but it stacks up very well overall. Like I said, it was a solid period for the Bears organization. Was it great? No. The Patriots and Steelers had a great period but that doesn't diminish what the Bears accomplished. Hell, from 2001-2011 only 14 different NFL teams actually made it to the SB. That means over half the league was even shutout from making the big game. That itself is a accomplishment.
You need another example of true "Football Hell"? See the Bears from 1992-2000. That was football hell.

RE: Jerry Angelo to write for thesidelineview.com
What got Angelo fired was that he didn't keep up with the Packers. They past the Bears in overall roster talent during his tenure.

It sounds to me you would have been 'Content' with Jerry for another 10 years, sorry not me Pal. I thought I listed their accomplishments over that period earlier. And winning 54% of your regular season games over a course of 10-years is nothing to sneeze at.
As for Angelo, short term I was okay one way or the other. I would have been okay if they let him stay on for 1 more year and let try to finish out the core he built just like I been okay with Lovie staying on for one more year. But if they let them go when they did and went into a new direction before the Angelo/Lovie core played out it's string, I was okay with that too. Long term, I thought it was time to move in a new direction. They had been here over a decade and it's nearly impossible to stay at one place and be very successful at the same gig. Theo Epstein actually quoted Bill Walsh when he was first hired by the Cubs about that same thing. Sometimes both parties need a fresh perspective to be successful. It was becoming clear that was true with both Lovie and Angelo.
So yes, while I am pleased with the new direction of Trestman as the new HC and extremely pleased with Emery as the new GM, I am not going to crap all over what Angelo/Lovie did for this franchise like a small group did on here. Beyond the fact that the Bears under them were very respectable and solid, they turn a really laughingstock of a organization and made it one of the plum jobs in the NFL again. Proof? Go back to 2001. Who really wanted to come to Chicago and coach and/or be the GM of that team?? Hell guy, Dave Bleeping McGinnis realized it was a bad gig and the Bears had to go down to like their third pick of a HC back in 1999 with Dick Jauron. Flash forward to two months ago when the Bears had a HC vacancy and almost universally everyone said it was the best job available to go along with being one of the best jobs in football, period. Ditto for a year ago when there was a GM vacancy. That's what Angelo/Lovie did for the Bears. They turn a crap organization and made it one of the most respected in the game again. And if you cannot understand or refuse, then you stop being objective and are subjective therefore we should just move on.....

Overraction sometimes can really be a head scratcher. And I am married to a Packer fan. I think you I got you beat in that dept. And if they have no life outside of football like many Packer fans do, then that is their problem - not yours.

And if you cannot understand or refuse, then you stop being objective and are subjective therefore we should just move on..... Very, very well stated and indisputable as well. We see a lot of arguments over the definition of meatball-ism. Not being able to see or appreciate the night and day difference between the Phillips-Angelo-Smith era and the Mike McCaskey-Wanny-Jauron era from an entertainment/proud-to-be-a-Bears-fan perspective to me, is an typical example of Meatballism. The old, "anybody's gotta be better than da crap we got now" mentality while completly forgetting that they took us from lower third of the NFL to the upper third over the long haul. Of course we want the SB, and of course we want to be in that upper fourth, not just upper third, that's why these guys eventually got fired, and most everyone doesn't have a problem with it. But the idea that there is more likely to be success with the new guys than there was with the old, simply because they are "somebody different", while forgetting that these were the same guys that set the standard higher and made 10-6 not good enough.... that, as I said, is pure meatballism.

I know people who have Chicago Bears coats from the 06 season that declare NFC Champions. I never understood the pride in being number 2, win it all or you failed. And as far as your wife being a Packer Fan you may have me beat, all i got are my Fiance', my mother, my sister and her husband, my niece, nephew, their significant others and their kids, yeah the NFC Championship game (which i watched in Waukesha Wi. at my sisters home with all of them and me) a couple years ago was definitely Football Hell in my world. And before anyone says it, yes i enjoy each and every game along the way.
