Draft Scenario # 1

Draft Scenario # 1

We all know the Bears have the 20th pick in the first round of the draft,
with no 3rd round pick, and 5 total picks in all.
If we hit on two starters to come out of our draft ,
start from day 1, would you consider it a successful draft ?
Thank you i'll hang up now and listen to your answer.tongue

The problem with you starting this thread is that there is a thread directly below this one titled, "20th Pick in the Draft."

That may be why the crickets chirp... pirate

I hear you but, I'm asking what is a successful draft, with only 5 picks.
I'm not asking  'who' to draft.

2 *good* starters? Yes. Successful draft.

But, for the sake of comparison, 2011 brought us Paea and Conte, two solid starters, and a currently crappy right tackle in Carimi. I'm not sure I consider that draft successful, because I don't consider any of those guys difference makers at this point. So it kind of depends. If 2012 brings us Barrett Jones and, let's say Oday Aboushi, a couple of likely starters but guys I don't consider likely to be different makers, I'll probably be disappointed. D.J. Fluker and Tavon Austin, a couple guys with big time upside? Now I'm intrigued.

2.5 good starters. (aka two starters besides the fact that we got .5 of Brandon Marshall for that 3rd)

Ok, cool.  I'd say a starting OL & TE with the 1st & 2nd picks followed by a special teams player that shows promise as our next MLB with our 4th rd pick...

I should have had a better title, i see were it can be confusing, but i have a follow up question when i see what most people think is a successful draft

Sadly 2 contributors would be a success based on recent drafts. I just hope all 5 could make the team. I know, my standards are too high.

How 'bout we draft players for their natural positions and pass on pre-injured ones like Hardin.

Corey Wooten was a "pre-injured" draft pick by the Bears and he seems to really be stepping his game up to another level. Should we have passed on him too, or are you just bitching about an Emery pick, just to bitch like usual?

I think I will jump on this bandwagon too. Considering the positions of need (OL, LB, TE) and the positions that need depth (WR, CB, QB behind Cutler), getting 5 guys that can make the team would be a plus. If they can contribute, that would be a win in my book.

Na, its more fun to move players around and with JA gone not sure we can find injured players to draft in the first round.

Hardin will surprise some folks this year he is healthy. What I would like to see this year from this draft is a LT and a Center, after that a TE with a developmental wide receiver that can go deep. I don't feel the Johnny Knox vibes this year.

Free agency should bring a CB,LB OG and a DT. Please don't resign D.Hester

Goota get three:

One impact player- means you gotta hit on that number one pick. THis is where the Bears have struggled.

One starter.

One player to add quality depth.

That's a pretty good draft.

In retrospect this thread looks a little more interesting. So if the measuring stick for a good draft is...
1 impact player
1 starter, and
1 contributor to add key depth

Do we think we may have achieved that? The answer probably depends on what year they have to start. I could see us getting 1-2 starters out of this draft for this year barring injuries (probably Long and maybe Mills or Greene).

I could also see all three of those guys contributing as well as Bostic and Washington as a situational pass rusher. Longer term (2-3 years) we could conceivably get 4-5 starters out of this draft. That would definitely make it successful in just about everyone's book I would think.
