not much OC experience. As in none. He was the Saints O-line coach, and only served as an interim head coach during the HC's 6-game suspension.  strange. Maybe Trestman will be the real OC?

What does this mean for Bates? Does he stay on as QB coach? Haven't really heard about much interest in him or him interviewing.

And isnt he more a WCO guy anyway?

Everyone's saying Trestman will call the plays. I guess Kromer will focus on the OL and just have the OC title.

Was he an OL coach for NO? We know they've had success.

I did hear that Trestman has called his own plays in the past.

Yeah I think Trestman will call his own plays. Perhaps Bates stays on in helping to shape game plans and being the QB coach? noidea

I hope Trestman will retain Bates as QB and WR coach.  Drake needs to pack his bags!

Yeah. I assume Trestman will be calling plays...Kromer will be involved in the game-planning, kind of like Dennison in Houston.

I get the impression that all these hires are going to be beholden to Emery for their jobs at this level. I don't see anybody yet who would be a "lock" for that same job with another team. I don't think that Emery wanted anybody who would question his authority or abilities. Let's hope he knows what he is doing.

Here's a bit of info

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/1/16/3882232/chic ago-bears-hire-aaron-kromer-offensive-coordinator

Best part of it was this:

Kromer's line last season also stood up under incredible duress. Despite teams knowing the Saints often had no choice but to throw, Kromer's group only allowed 59 hits on Drew Brees, the third best total in the NFL.

After losing one of the best in the biz, Nicks. This guy could end up being the coaching x-factor.

I think Bates if he stays will be involved in game-planning as well.

Re: Aaron Kromer the new OC/OLC

Now this hire I don't mind.  This guy gets a lot out of his O line (and we need a heck of a lot of help in that category.)  If Trestman is going to go full throttle in the passing game we need a guy that's familiar with that type of offense for blocking assignments and the like.  He can probably help Trestman with decision making based on what the O line is doing well (or not) at certain points in a game.

Re: Aaron Kromer the new OC/OLC

Another good provile on Kromer: link.

He ran both the OL and the ground game schemes for the Saints. It makes sense with Trestman's reported concentration on protecting the quarterback. Also it seems like his expertise with the line and ground game leave a strong possibility that Bates sticks around. I read in one of the Chicago papers that Trestman worked with Bates' father in the past, so perhaps there'll be that continuity.

If he also keeps Marinelli, I really like the eased transition period. Will be watching the news to see. I'm not sold on Trestman yet, and won't be unless/until we see results next season... but I'm starting to feel like it could be ok!

Interesting hire I hope he can improve this line... well shouldn't be hard to move up from the last spot lol.  I like these hires so far and knowing Tice is gone is a beautiful thing.

According to articles they share playcalling in Houston.

But like Greenbay and.. umm How it's been with the Saints. I like that he has that connection to the Saints and it's a new good track record O-line coach. Plus he has that HC experience in the NFL that doesn't hurt.

AND he's been working with a very sucessful offensive unit in New Orleans. That is never a bad thing in my opinion.

My only question is what exactly does this guy look like? I hope he's not a nerd, or else f*ck this hire! Lol, jk
