And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
Thoughts? I've felt like he could be a helluva head coach for a while now. And it might help the team not to go into frantic rebuild mode. (Whether that's a good or bad thing in itself, I know there is some disagreement on.)

Was starting to think he wouldn't be given a shot. Good for him.

I want no part of Dave Toub being the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

Re: And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
He's probably 14th out of 14 options. I would think this is more a formality of letting him interview than taking this seriously (like Singletary's interview.)

Re: And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
He definitely deserves the courtesy call. Been a damn good ST coach for a long time with the Bears and I hope he stays on in that role though I expect someone is going to give him a OC job or something very soon.

--------------------------------------------- Well for 1....Dave Toub is under contract with the Bears right now...So any expertiese he brings to the table....The Bears already have that. 2.Who runs the offense if Toub is the head coach.....some Quarterback coach of another team? No offensive coordinator is leaving their current job to be a coordinator here. The offensive guys they are talking to need to come in and be the Head Coach. Then you have Toub and Marinelli in place if that Head Coach wants them. I am sure Dave Toub is a nice guy...good ST coach, might make a good HC someday....but let a small market team find that out.

I agree with all of this, though you could see Norv as an OC, which hes said hes willing to do and i havent heard anything about him getting interviewed for HC jobs. But yeah, i love Toub but as a STs coach and think he should stick to his bread and butter for the time being.

RE: And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
An OC as new HC doesn't have to run the offense. Norv as OC makes a lot of sense too since Toub and Ron were close. I personally like the Captain of the Ship head coach over the Executive Coordinator. They are free to really manage the game and oversee their subordinates. Anytime23 wrote:

RE: And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
It seems like Emery is interviewing anyone mentioned by the press so he can't be criticized later. This is getting out of hand. Even the Chiefs knew who they wanted.

Re: And now Emery's interviewed Dave Toub
I don't understand why Toub is getting all this attention quite frankly. What do we really know about him? I'm not saying he's a bad coach, he has to be given credit for the quality overall special teams play over the years. One thing I have noticed over the last few years is when out ST play isn't up to par (like this year), he catches none of the blame.
I think the legend of Toub was born more out of the accomplishments of Hester through the years than anything else. Hester was a huge sensation and Toub was a benefactor.
To all those guys who think he's great, I'm not saying he's not the guy, I'm just saying we don't have any idea one way or another.
And if Emery does pick him, I won't say it's a bad hire. I'll assume Emery knows what he's doing, give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's the right guy for the job. But I'll be doing that because I'm deferring to Emery rather than believing anything I read on the Trib.

He just leaving no stone unturned and also getting an idea of a possible staff as well. 2nd round interviews should start soon and I expect a new HC in place very soon unless its' a coordinator with a team still playing.

Not just Hester. Gould is one of the best in the business and their coverage units has always been up near the top of the league almost every year.
