I was watching First take this morning...
What a couple of pathetic morons, the discussion of Ray Lewis retirement and where does he stand among the great MLB of all time, and the best defensive players of all time. According to Stephen A. he is top 5 MLB and top 3 of all time def. players. What garbage!! IMHO Lewis is top 10 for sure, possibly top 5 MLB. First ballot HOF. Stephen A. list of top 3 alltime def. was LT, Deion, Lewis, although great players and certainly in the discussion for top 20 players not top 3 in my opinion. My list of top 10 MLB would be: 1. Butkus(not being a homer, just going on what I saw in person) 2. Nitzche 3. Bergey 4. Lambert 5. Nobis 6. Curtis 7. Lucci 8. Lewis 9. Huff 10. Singletary(this might be a little homerism, but what the hell its my post) Obviously a large number are left out for obvious reasons, I saw all of these guys play and IMHO these guys all stood out for me. One difficult thing is comparing players of different eras due to the nature of the game then and now, and what the older players could get away with compared to now. What do you think? Forgot Willie Lanier, probably put him around 5 orn 6, my bad!!

(Stephen A. Smith) - Probably the last person in sports that I would go to for a valid opinion on linebackers. Point guards would be more his speed. He probably doesn't even know who most of your top 10 are.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
Stephen A was going off the guys he's seen play, outside of Singletary, he didn't see any of your guys. ESPN's Christian Fauria took Junior Seau over Lewis, so it's all subjective.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
I don't like the guy personally, and I go back to seeing him probably play about 6 times in college, in person.
But to say he's not an all-time great is silly to me. Not just a great tackler, sideline to sideline, but could stay on the field and cover TE's and backs. In today's pass happy league he could still make an impact as a MLB. Great leader, great player. The murder that he got away with will always cast a shadow over him, but as a player I don't know how you can argue.

Stop with the murder garbage, no one was ever convicted in that case, not even the two guys that were charged with the actual stabbing.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
Exactly Marlon. Some people think Ray got away with a murder. It was people from his "crew" that night that did it. Ray just wouldn't tell on them. People also need to be careful what they say because our best player right now used to like to beat on his girlfriend / wife.
Nobody MLB wise can touch Ray Lewis in my opinion. If I could start a team and use any of the all time greats for defense, it would be Lewis. He wasn't just a great player, but as they mentioned on the show today..........the best leader in sports history.

Sorry but that's wrong in my book. If you cover up a murder for your buddies I don't see how that's ok. To his credit, he's never had an off the field incident since and maybe that was the wake up call he needed to not involve himself with bad guys again.

And that's why he entered a guilty plea, but even after he told ALL he knew, the state still didn't have enough evidence to gain a conviction.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
I notice Urlacher is not on the list, and deservedly so.
There's no question, Ray Lewis is the best MLB of this era. Patrick Willis and Urlacher are in the running but that's it.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
I dont know what Lewis knew or didnt know. What I do know is there are several places in this world where ratting out your friend is worse than how bad you think it is for not talking. If it was him that did it and got away with it, I would feel differently. However, he didnt do it.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
Did anyone ever get convicted for the murder? Did they ever find the white suit with blood? He must have felt some guilt since he settled out of court with the families involved.

Re: I was watching First take this morning...
Meh.....the best leader in sports history? That is pushing it. If you would pick Ray Lewis first over Dick Butkus, Deacon Jones, Alan Page, Bob Lilly, Lawrence Taylor, or Joe Greene, you are crazy. But that is just me. TheUFan wrote:Exactly Marlon. Some people think Ray got away with a murder. It was people from his "crew" that night that did it. Ray just wouldn't tell on them. Re: I was watching First take this morning...
I put it to you Ray Lewis isn't and hasn't been the best defensive player on his own team for the last decade. Give me Ed Reed over Ray Lewis anyday.

Ray Lewis is just as guilty as the scum who did the act, and that is assuming we beleive he wasn't personally involved. If you are out with your scum friends and they kill someone you call the cops and have them arrested, period. And if you put "beating your wife" in the same space as murder you are an idiot.
