Let's ban all guns, that'll fix the problem.....
From the UK: Handgun crime 'up' despite ban Handguns were banned following the Dunblane massacre A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned.

Look into Australia's post gun ban history too. Banning all weapons to me is like Prohibition, it really does sound like a good idea on paper, but when it's put into practice is has very bad consequences.

I'm not opposed to owning handguns for self defense, or small rifles and shotguns for hunting, but there's no reason someone needs an assault rifle though.

Assault rifle bans would have done nothing to stop yesterdays shooting, since 2 handguns were used.
Connecticuts own ban on assault rifles didn't help.

Oh I definitely agree with you there, no assault rifles, armor piercing ammo, or bullet proof vests for non law enforcement folks. Wouldn't that be a good place to start, maybe along with a little more in depth background checks? Here in OK it takes less than 5 minutes to get approved, in fact about 2 minutes would be closer. Also, wasn't the plan I just mentioned essentially the old Clinton plan?

Connecticuts own ban on assault rifles didn't help. I don't think anybody is trying to solve what happened yesterday, although this is the 2nd thread you've posted this. We're talking about a broader and more general picture. An assault rifle ban is a step in the right direction. Just because it wouldn't have stopped what happened yesterday, doesn't mean it won't help stop one in the future. Just saying it wouldn't have done anything yesterday just so you don't have to do anything is just terrible.

I think legislatively re-enacting The Assault Weapons Ban would be an ice breaker. Kinda like Tom Cole and the Grover Norquist pledge.

Connecticuts own ban on assault rifles didn't help. The Medical examiner just said the wounds were from the assault riffle.

CNN just confirmed what Medical examiner said, that .223 Bushmaster semi-automatic is what killed ALL the victims.
Gunman used one of the handguns to shoot himself.

Also, Toma seems like he's more interested in just asking rhetorical questions to people instead of trying to help find a solution. He's gone in a few threads saying "this wouldn'thave stopped the shooting yesterday". And I don't know how many times it must be explained to him and several people online I've seen that think this gun-control stuff is just coming all of the sudden as a knee-jerk reaction. This again is a culmination of build-up from people who have tried to remain silent on this issue or level-headed, but finally have had enough after the little ones were massacred. No coincidence that the NRA has declined to comment on this since it happened. All I expect fromt hem is a statement that will say something about it being a lone gunman and it not reflecting all the responsible gun owners. I would be but then I wouldn't be shocked if they even advocated people going out and getting more guns. It seems like every online forum I've been to in the last 24 hours, all the pro-gun guys are accusing us of wanting to ban all guns everywhere, think we're just using this as a knee-jerk reaction to talk about gun politics, and/or keep using the "gun laws wouldn't have stopped this" line. This unfortunate accident needs to be used as a step forward to trying to enact sensible and reasonable gun laws. Nobody is taking away your right to bear arms or go hunting, but inaction in this instance for the sake inaction is just terrible. Action may not solve everything but we can't just keep doing nothing.

Re: Let's ban all guns, that'll fix the problem.....
Also, a question the "ban assault rifles" crowd can answer for me, what do u do with the thousands of assault rifles owned by private citizens?
Try and take them all away from them? Good luck with that.
Stop the private sell of them? again, good luck.
I'm open to logical suggestions here.

Stop selling ammo for it and take it from them as well. Or offer to let them keep them in a gun range under lock and key and security guard supervision

gonna compensate all these people for the $1000+ guns you're taking from them?
don't expect any retaliation from law abiding citizens if the government tries to take guns they legally bought?

So it rose 40%. Whats that, from 10 to 14. Theyre crime rates are nowhere close to ours.
There are 30 gun deaths a day in the US. That more than some countries have in a year.

If they are law abiding, they'd follow the law and give up their illegal weapons.
Why would anyone need an assault rifle?
