Taking Back Thanksgiving
So what's the deal with stores opening on Thanksgiving? I'm cool with stores like Wawa or 7/11 or gas stations or whatever being open because they're traveling necessity, same thing with food joints, but WHY are retail locations opening on Thanksgiving? Why do these stores need to be open? The whole concept of Black Friday JMO needs to die. If they want to have holiday week/weekend sales fine, but the idea of one day being dedicated to shopping is sad.
I ask everyone who posts here to please avoid going to retail stores that are open on Thanksgiving. I won't ask the same for Black Friday, but I'll be spending all black friday drinking scotch in the comfort of my home.

We are a secular-progressive country. There's no reason for this holiday anyway.

RE: Taking Back Thanksgiving
One of the reasons I'm happy to be out of retail is that I don't have to work the holidays. You'd think that cellphones wouldn't be a huge christmas thing, but guess what, they are. Working 50 hour weeks isn't fun.

I don't know about leftovers since we're not doing normal thanksgiving but I'm hoping for it so I can make my Gobbler.

RE: Taking Back Thanksgiving
I didn't mind stores opening at 6 am on Friday, but it's not even Friday anymore.
The fact that they're opening 8pm now is ridiculous.
I saw a McDonalds with their signage saying "Open All Day Thanksgiving!!!!". I was really upset with that. It's one thing to open up late, its another to open for breakfast and close mid-day, but to be OPEN ALL DAY is terrible.

Maybe this is a great opportunity each year for our secular-progressive country to confess all of our crimes against humanity (though the"standard" for determining that we've done bad things, is just a bunch of hocus-pocus, religiously-tainted mumbo-jumbo -- but never mind, as they say, confession is cathartic) and thank the peoples that we've nearly wiped-out in our arrogant attempts at genocide, for not rising up en mass to wipe us off the face of the map. Maybe rename it National Contrition Day!....Oops, too religious sounding. Happy Thanksgiving to you! Slainte.

RE: Taking Back Thanksgiving
I prefer Christmas Eve/Christmas Day (better menu; NBA > NFL *ducks for cover*), but Thanksgiving is a fine holiday in my book.
