NFL Season Thread #5
For Zito:' He looked lost? They weren't successful running the football. Your DB made a great play and iupati got beat off the snap. That is what you define as lost?
Kaepernick is the one who makes the decision to hand off or take it. He made great deciisions in the read option and reading hhis progressions.
I just compared Kaepernick to rg3 in terms of reading defense. I didn't say be was on the level of a Brady or even ryan.
Kaepernick has not been carried by the 49ers. He has been one of the biggest reasons they are in the super bowl.

Yes he did look lost. And he makes the read option calls. But you don't think his coaches tell him what the falcons were doing and what to look for? Seriously don't act like he's Peyton .Manning making all the calls and reads on his own.

RE: NFL Season Thread #4
I have never made that claim.
Again, you think he looked lost with those two big plays the Atlanta defense made? The other team gets paid as well. Unless you feel that Kaep is so good that if he is on his game nobody can stop him but I doubt you believe that.

He looked lost by his body language. He didn't seem comfortable. You can tell he wasn't fully prepared for the falcons d and he and the coaches adjusted. I'm more than comfortable saying Vernon Davis was probably wide openon 70% of the routes he ran

I think that is a big time stretch there Zito. Its always a mixture of the player and hte coaches.
Bottom line is Kaep went out there after the third drive and looked in command the whole game. He deserves credit. The guy is a gifted physical player but also has the dedication and smarts you need to take it to the next level.
Wonderlic scores are a good indicator of ability to absorb a playbook and read defenses.

I thought they would as well but Kaep did a great job so far in the two games. They probably get past GB because that defense was horrible but would they have won down 17-0 in Atlanta? I'm not sure. The majority of good NFL QB's had really good wonderlic scores. Its a rarity when a good one has a bad score like Favre did.

I'm more than comfortable saying Vernon Davis was probably wide openon 70% of the routes he ran Because the Falcons bought into the Kaep being a run first QB hype from the previous week. Most other teams didn't have a LB or Safety spying on Kaep like the Falcons did. That got Vernon 1 on 1 or uncovered on a bunch of routes. The Bears did this as well on monday night with Kaep's first start. They figured he was a one read and then run QB and he lit them up because of it. If anything, blame Nolan for your game plan on D and your sorry pass rush. You guys made our O-Line look like all pro's when they are actually below average when it comes to pass blocking.

Thats what I don't think people understand. Thye are now discounting Kaep because Vernon was wide open.
Well part of the reason Vernon is wide open is because of the need to spy on Kaep. If that spy isn't there then Vernon is covered but Kaep is going to gouge the defense running the ball. Its hard to stop everything that Kaep has brought to the offense for the 49ers. The guy can do everything.

Pretty sure Fitzpatrick got a perfect score and he sure struggles reading defenses.
And I seem to remember you saying RG3 doesnt have to make tough throws because his receivers are wide open.

Filed to ESPN: Suspended former Saints DC Gregg Williams already has met with Titans and is on verge of becoming Tennessee’s assistant HC.

If the Falcons could stop the run out of base a light spy they could stop Kaepernick from being a threat.

RE: NFL Season Thread #4
They overplayed on Kaep on every running play and had a spy on almost every passing play. That is what allowed the 49ers to utilize Davis and run gore/James. Obviously it always helps to have the best run blocking offensive line in football.

The Falcons were running a zone so a spy on Kaepernick wasn't a problem, the ends were crashing to contain Kaepernick which helped the off tackle runs, but the Falcons running defense has been pathetic all year so they had to over commit. Why do you think Russell Wilson tore them up? If Kaepernick has Wilson's skills he too could have thrown for nearly 400 yards.

Wilson also threw the football 15 more times than Kaep because they fell behind by 20 with 4 minutes to go in the first half. Kaepernick threw it way more effectively but just didn't throw it as much. There was never a need to open it up like that but Kaep has proven that if his team needs him to throw the ball a lot that they can win.

I can't even.believe Zito made that statement. The numbers show that Kaepernick was just as effective throwing the football but just didn't need to as much.
Kaepernick certainly needs a few seasons performing at this level but he has been extremely proficient throwing the ball. Its odd that people are dismissing his ability to be a QB.
