Players like BJ Upton are why clubs need to stop signing players to long expensive contracts that tie up huge chunks of payroll.  I would prefer the owners getting together and deciding to structure contracts that are sensible with incentive bonuses based on multiple criteria.  Players should earn the majority of their pay based on performance rather than these guaranteed sums regardless of how they perform on the field.  I think you would see better baseball in general.

I wonder just how tradeable Upton is.  Would the FO really be willing to eat tons of money in a swap?  I really doubt that they would allow him to be released, afterall 28M counting Upton would really cripple the team going forward.

What would a top heavy trade for Jackson really accomplish?

Maybe the best solution is just to sit him at the end of the bench and go with a viable 24 man lineup.  Its not like we arent used to that.

Middle of the 7th....BJ Upton 0 - 14 at bats.  Need anyone say more?  $83,000.00 per game.  This is what the Braves get for their money when every game is critical down the stretch.
