If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

Will Fredi Gonzalez (and Frank Wren) get fired?

Should Fredi Gonzalez (and Frank Wren) get fired?

Discuss.

Re: If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

This discussion should be one of those 4 hour forums on MLB Network.

Im just not sure Fredi is enough of a leader nor am I convinced that he has the baseball mentality to win.  Same kinda manager as Yost IMO.  Just not enough fire.  His lineup construction is lacking as well IMO.

Wren seems to have trouble with the high dollar acquisitions.  I dont know if there is really any fault since Im not in the budgeting process.  I do think Santana was a reach but who knows after the spring training  spate of injuries.
Question the BJ signing when it happened but I know some will say hindsight.  I wondered why Heyward wasnt given a shot in CF.

Were there not signs from AZ that JUp would/could be a distraction?

I wonder why Gattis is not played in LF in some of the small parks like Philly and Boston with Cincy and Pitt to come.

Dont really understand the bench either unless it was simply the result of short money.

RE:  Fredi:  Does Bobby Cox have much input to the FO?

RE:  Wren.  Does John Hart have a future role with Atlanta?

Re: If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

Well, a couple of years ago when the payroll was around 80 million and Chipper and Huddy occupied quite a bit of that I'd have said a resounding 'no'. But now? The pitching moves Mr. Wren has made have been good ones, by and large.

But Uggla and BJ have really, really, REALLY crippled this team with their lack of performance. Gattis being hurt hasn't helped. The lack of power makes a Braves home run something to really stand up and notice. Overall? Maybe the middle of a losing streak isn't the time to comment, but based on what the immediate future holds both this year and most likely next? I'd say Mr. Wren's seat is pretty damn hot right now. That is if anyone actually cares about winning.

Re: If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

Fredi... no, I don't think so...

I posted this on another board last week.

I tell people one of the reasons I do what I do, is because I grew up an atlanta sports fan in the 80's... you had to look towards the future, because the Falcons and Braves were so rotten.

the Braves Scouting and development is the only reason they are any good at all.

If you take the starting 8 and including Uggla to make it 9... you have to include him, because you're still paying him...

Frank Wren Imports:

Imports: Upton, Upton, Uggla, Johnson
Homegrown: Gattis, Simmons, Freeman, Heyward, La Stella

Imports: $45.5 Million / -.6 WAR
Homegrown: $11.7 Million / 12.3 WAR

you can't win as a mid market team when half your payroll is costing you games.
---------------

If I had made mistakes that cost my employer 25% of its operating revenue (Uggla/Upton), I know I'd be looking for another job.

Fredi and Wren just signed contract extentions; If the contracts are longer than one year each I think we are stuck with them. That's the hang up, no one seems to know the length of the deals.
I don't think Fredi's a bad manager, he's just not the guy for this team and I've never been enamored of Wrens'  GM skills and I think both need to go....along with 1/3  of this team

Just to refresh some memories:  Last year while in a dead heat for home field advantage in the playoffs, Fredi in all his wisdom, chose to start Kameron Loe in a crucial game.  Remember how that turned out and the consequences thereof?

1st, yes, Fredi should get fired. Lets remember, this isnt his first botched coaching job as the Braves manager. I'd fire him now.

2nd, Frank is trying. Has he swung and missed alot lately, yes. But he is swinging and trying. I cant fault him for that.

Re: If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

I don'tn think either will. Both probably should. I wish FG would go out and get thrown out and try to lite a fire, his mentor sure did. I don't understand FW. Lowe, Kawakami,Uggla, B.J., What is he doing? And who is advising him. And WHY did they replace Brian Snitker with Doug Decenso? It's getting scary at all the bad decisions

All trades and contracts must be approved by Chairman and CEO: Terry McGuirk; President: John Schuerholz before Frank Wren can make a trade. Wren works for those two and they control the money and establish the budget.

During a losing streak is not the time for an objective discussion of this topic.

Way too much emotion right now.

This isnt a legitimate statement. Theyve been mediocre/bad all year since their hot start. This team is poorly put together and no leaders. Thats not a losing streak issue. Thats a season issue.

I don't know I was hopeful not only to make the playoffs but a run in the playoffs. I really don't believe we have the pitching to do that this year. If we draw L A in the first round don't think it will be a different result from last year.

Re: If the Braves don't make the playoffs...

the other thing it might take is the epic apathy...

the fans are speaking with their wallets...

20k paid last night, couldn't have been more than 15k in attendance...

and this is for a playoff contender against a 1st place Dodger team. I know school starts early these days, but THAT'S what will get things changed...

18k for a Sunday night game against a supposed rival in the Nationals with the playoffs on the line?

I guess I'm not alone in saying that this Braves team is hard to watch.

September should be interesting at the Ted, with crowds in the 5-10K range every night.

Unless you just live and die with these boys there is not much to see here, and football season starts very, very soon.

I wouldnt wait to fire Fredi. He'd be gone tonight.

FW would get another chance.

Worst team i can remember. I was just a kid in the 80's.

I think management needs to be held accountable for this team. Offensively, this is not the right group of players.
