Bill Shanks: Braves recalled Phillip Gosselin.

@BillShanks: Looks like the Braves recalled Phillip Gosselin. A corresponding announcement will made in the morning.

@grantmcauley: Phil Gosselin, 25, has shown great versatility for Gwinnett, playing 21G at 2B, 39G at 3B, 20G at SS, 8G in OF and even 1G at 1B. #Braves

@grantmcauley: #Braves INF Phil Gosselin ranked 3rd in International League with a .345 AVG and leads league with 120 H and 27 doubles for @GwinnettBraves.

Odd timing to say the least.  Wonder if Russell for Gosslin could happen today.

Sad to see Uggla go but time IMO.  Never like to see anyone fall so far.

There is nothing official about Uggla going, although, all signs point to that, until the Braves make it official I'm not believing it. If that is the case though, it's odd timing to say the least . One reason I don't believe it, is they cleared that 40-man spot by outrighting Pedro Beato off the roster, so they have a spot for Gosselin on the 40-man, and if it is Uggla why now the day before the All-Star Break, why not wait until after the break when you're at home to do it.

Gavin Floyd is on the 15 day DL 06/26Out for Season Underwent season-ending surgery June 25.

He can be moved to 60 day DL anytime they want to open another spot on 40 man roster.

I know, that's not the issue, my point is they don't need to move Uggla off the roster to create a 40-man spot for Gosselin, they did not by outrighting Beato. It just all seems to be odd timing if it is indeed Uggla. Why do it the game before the All-Star Break. Why not wait until after? That's all I'm saying.

Isnt the immediate issue (before game time today) teh 25 man roster.  If I count correctly someone has to move.

Pena has some redundancy if Gosselin stays.  Trade value to a team like the Reds?  Cubs are disappointed in Barney and Lake.  May want to keep Alcantara up for CF.

I agree the timing is extremely weird, as I mentioned to Bill Shanks last night. Since we don't know if it is a release or Uggla trade I was pointing out there is additional wiggle room if they are making a trade..... In the form of the Floyd roster spot on the 40 man.

It is curious for sure about the timing of this development.

Pena is not going anywhere. They want versatile middle infielders on their bench who can play multiple positions, that is the downfall of Uggla, who can only play 2nd. Having Gosselin and Pena both on the bench allows for much more flexibility.

Exactly! If it is just Uggla being DFA'd what is taking so long to make the announcement? The plot thickens.

Re: Bill Shanks: Braves recalled Phillip Gosselin.

We all seem to agree that needs are a LH reliever and a bench bat.  Pena aint either of those and what he is is the one part of our bench that can possibly bring back one of the needs at minimal risk.  Especially if Gosselin can fill in at SS for a day or 2 if needed.

Personally, I hope it is Uggla moving.  Just so we can move on to the future.

While were at it lets get a real argument going here, this is the longest thread in months.

Uggla should have been released months ago.  While I've always liked Dan for his hustle, he brings nothing to the table and has done nothing but clog up a 25 man roster spot.  Hopefully he is finally going to be released.

Braves have selected the contract of INF Phil Gosselin today, he will join the team in CHI. 2B Dan Uggla has received a one-game suspension. Unbelievable

Understatement.  Makes absolutely no sense to use up a 40 man space and needless to replace someone you never use as well on the 25.

Early reports are the Braves suspended Uggla for being late

Fredi says Ugglas one day suspension is an internal matter. He won't discuss it.

Perhaps Bill can shed more light on what is exactly going on. One thing is for sure, I've never heard of the Braves suspending a player for one game and he stick around very long. The Braves usually get rid of those guys pretty quickly, so I expect Uggla's tenure in Atlanta not to last much longer.

The only thing I know is what has been reported by the beat writers. Obviously, I am not in Chicago. It looks like he was late.

If that's what it is, it is NOT the first time that has happened. I do know that.

Bill, any truth to what the beat writers are saying that the reason Uggla hasn't been released, is that would affect other future financial commitments and loans. That being said they're willing to continue to handicap the team by playing with a 24-man roster rather than just eat the remainder of his salary.

Re: Bill Shanks: Braves recalled Phillip Gosselin.

There must be some stupid reason like that to keep him on the roster. We've all been trying to figure it out. There's got to be a reason that wouldn't make much sense.

It's ridiculous. Release him already. He needs to go.

And NOW, we've got one of his teammates reportedly MAD because it was on TV that Uggla was suspended?

This proves there is NO leadership on this team. None. Zero.

Yeah, Chipper eluded to the lack of leadership in his very insightful sitdown interview with Jeff Hullinger you posted on here.
