not what I'd have expected, in about three places. But jeez, no BJ no Uggla. WE might not strikeout so much.

Pena, Jordan and Juan have all played well enough to get some starts. But I figured BJ's hit last night would get him another start and CJ's 3 would too.

Prob. for Freddie or Brian!

Braves are going to have to figure something out with Gattis. He is too good to not be playing in a consistent basis. I think its better to let him mash in Gwinnett for a month or two till a move is made.

Apparently 1 AB a week for the possible rookie of the freakin year is sufficient enough for our legend blessed with wisdom manager...

Was hoping BJ would be in today to build off of last night.

Teheran goes tomorrow. It would make sense to start Gattis today and McCann tomorrow. I guess we'll see Laird tomorrow.

Btw does anyone else think that McCann has helped Teheran turn things around.  To be fair, the turnaround started before McCann's return.  But Brian has called a good game when Teheran has been on the mound.

I think it was going to be a natural progression for Tehearn anyway but Mac is definnitely helping him. From the article that was posted about catcher framing its clear that Mac is an excellent receiver. If either Gattis/Mac doesn't get the start tomorrow I'm going to be upset.

Fredi said a few days ago he wanted to test McCann going three days. So I think this has been the plan for a while. I think it would have made more sense to do this in a situation where the third game wasn't a day game after a night game. Looking at the pitching from the other team, I would have gone McCann, Gattis, McCann in the Dodgers series. Would have allowed McCann to go tomorrow with Teheran on the mound. I doubt Fredi will send McCann out a fourth consecutive day tomorrow.

I just can't see anyway you can justify playing Laird at this point with Heyward back. If you are going to play Laird at all then Gattis needs to be in Gwinnett getting everyday AB's and behind the plate.

RE: GDT Braves vs Dodgers Sunday

Having 3 catchers on a roster will always be a struggle to find playing time for them, especially when your all star starting catcher is left hand hitting that hits RH & LH pitching well, and as was said, Fredi wants to build Mac up to catching 3 days in a row and then a day off. As well as David Ross hit for the Braves while he was here he never pinch hit much or at all because we didn't have a third catcher. I don't want to lose Gattis a a pinch hitter so if Laird goes away that is what will happen.

Big time decisions ahead everywhere on the roster with the bullpen injuries, Beachy coming back and the bench delimma concerning Gattis. Gattis is a great problem to have.

PD, do you believe that Laird should get any catching starts though? Gattis can only now get AB's when Mac sits.

Laird has his place, for now, but major decisions will be needed soon as to how this roster construction plays out. I'm confidant Wren is burning up the phones and a target date is in place to try to pull the string on a trade, naturally others teams will need to cooperate and hopefully not too many popular Braves names are involved.

It makes sense for the team to go with six pitchers in the pen as long as they can. Until a position player gets hurt. They can keep the pen fresh by shuttling a couple relievers back and forth from Triple A. Baltimore and some other teams have shown how effective this "shuttle" approach can be.

Send Gattis to Gwinnett so he can get some ABs? We may have lost last night with Gattis in Gwinnett. We need him in ATL. It's a good thing to have players on the bench that would be starting other places. This is about winning the WS not developing players for later.

RE: GDT Braves vs Dodgers Sunday

Gattis will get his at bats. He will be our primary pinch hitter against both lefties and righties. I suspect Fredi will start to give him some games again at catcher. He'll get some DH time. We're better off staying with the current roster configuration. Eventually a position player will get hurt and we can go back to 7 in the pen.

RE: GDT Braves vs Dodgers Sunday

Fredi said last night he wanted to get Gattis 3 or 4 at bats coming up and regularly.  Said you can't expect him to stay sharp getting a pinch hit at bat.  Hes going to find a way to keep him him the lineup at least 2 or 3 games a week.

Re: GDT Braves vs Dodgers Sunday

The redundancy on this roster is mindboggling and gives unlimited fodder to this forum.

3rd Base:   Johnson
                Francisco
                Pena

1b             Freeman
                Johnson
                Gattis

C              McCann
                Laird
                Gattis

OF            Up
                Up
                Heyward
                Shafer
                Johnson
                Gattis

Somebody has to go and I doubt anyone is dumb enough to move Gattis at his cost and ability to start at any of the positions above cept 3rd and I wouldnt bet against that yet.
Still hasnt been tried.

Depth (or redundancy if you want to call it that) is a good thing.
