Are we just riding the hot bat at 3rd or is Johnson gonna be the everyday guy?

Strasburg might actually beat us looking at that lineup.  The Stras killer is not in the lineup to hit tomahawk homers.

Although it's a very small sample size, Johnson is 3-8 with three RBIs against Strasburg. Francisco is 2-8 with five strikeouts, but there really isn't much difference.

Why wouldn't you want the National League's leading hitter in the lineup with the way this team is struggling right now. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I hope its' just the "hot" bat. Johnson now has a bb rate under 3%. (make Francoeur look like Adam Dunn). Power is decent with .160 Iso. Still when that average falls, his numbers aren't going to look good.

Francoeur has a slightly higher career BB% than Chris Johnson--5.1% vs 4.7%.

But I don't mind Fredi riding the hot hand.  The test is how quickly he recognizes it when Johnson cools off.

Basically to win this game, Justin and Freeman are going to have to go ham and account for 3-4 runs, and Julio is going to have to get us deep without giving up much, and then hope the pen doesn't stumble. I'm not very confident about any of these next four games to be honest. Maybe Thursday against Haren, but we're good at making struggling pitchers look like world beaters.

Hopefully Teheran builds on his last start.

Certainly don't have to worry about Laroche, its not June.

Then again Chipper is in the Nats clubhouse working with Laroche on his swing.

Amazes me how much this board hates Johnson. If his name was Prado and he was doing this everyone would love him.

If his name were "Prado" then there'd be actual cause to think he could keep this up.

I like Johnson and am impressed by what he has done so far.

But I think there are a number of us believe Francisco should be in there against righties.  That's all.  I'm not against Johnson getting a start here and there against a righty, especially when he is as hot as he is right now.

He obviously won't hit 400 this year but there is no reason to believe Johnson can't be a 280 hitter that hits 10-15 homeruns.

It gets annoying to read how bad he is when he's the only one hitting and everyone around him is striking out. Maybe we can just give the guy an ounce of credit for being really good right now, no?

Of course Johnson deserves credit to the kind of start he is off to. He looks like a .300 hitter to me.

By the way he is murdering lefties right now (1.188 OPS).  Against righties .848.  Juan is at .921 against righties so far this year.

One of the things that came up for discussion this off-season was whether a platoon made sense given Johnson's reverse splits so far in his major league career.  There were a couple points I thought were worth keeping in mind.  One is that it takes a lot of at bats--at least 500 from each side--before the data on splits stabilize.  A second was that Johnson had conventional splits in the minors, which is another form of additional data.  I believe he also had conventional splits in spring training. It is beginning to look (and the samples this year are certainly small) that he is going to be just fine against lefties.

I will say I think it is a mistake not to have Juan in the lineup the last two games against righties.  Fredi has his favorites (Uggla, Pena, Reed Johnson, Gattis on the current team).  Every year he seems to also have a couple players that he misuses or seemingly sets a higher bar for.  I'd say Juan and Gearrin fall in that class this year so far.

Johnson has been hitting, but that doesn't mean you have to believe he'll keep it up.

If he hits .280 and 15 homers with his on base skills and defense, he won't be an asset.

I think CJ has been a pleasent surprise that we all should be happy about. As a hitter through my eyes he looks far superior to Juan. JMO
