The Braves will win the East...if

Give me two players that if they have a great season, we'll win the East, assuming everybody else has a normal year.

I'm saying Uggla and Simmons.

BJ/Teheran

I say this because I believe that Heyward/Justin & Medlen/Minor will continue to be good. If we can get those two to join them then we should win 96+ games.

To be the man, you have to beat the man and so far I am undefeated.

Both Uptons should be just fine, and agree with the second part, but not so sure about the Teheran part.  It'll certainly help the org, on the whole, if he takes a big step forward.  However, #5 starters really aren't that critical to the overall success.  Remember when the Braves rotation was literally 5 deep?  Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz/Neagle/Millwood.  Great for winning 100 games during the regular season, but what's required is aces for the playoffs.

Just arbitarily, look at the D-Banks from when they won.  It was all Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling.  Without checking, can anybody remember the names of the other starters?  Does it even matter?

Kelly Johnson?  Utley-like IMO.

This thread is about winning the east. Braves will need all five starters to produce if that is going to happen.

The logical answer to me is we win the East if our weakest links or areas of greatest uncertainty have strong seasons.

Our weakest link is third. Our area of greatest uncertainty is fifth starter.

So if Teheran and Francisco have great seasons, we'll win the East.

I say Uggla and McCann as well.  No brainer.

I think not only us, but rival fans, forget how good these 2 can be.

Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts,' probably lost.

Mac and Minor.

Feel pretty good about the pitching if Minor picks up where he left off.

Brian does so much for us when he's right.

Medlen and Justin Upton.

Medlen needs to become the ace of this staff and continue his dominance over major league hitters.

Justin Upton needs to help in replacing the production lost this offseason and have an MVP season.

I'm also going to cheat and two other players:

Minor needs to pitch 200 plus innings and McCann needs to bounce back.
I stopped voting when I stopped taking drugs. I believe both of those acts are closely related to delusional behavior.

Who are the two most questionable players we have? Uggla and Francisco. Would be nice to get 70 HR's out of those two.

Not trying to debate you, but give everybody something more to think about, in terms of the 5th starter.  Somebody must have data compiled, but my hunch is that there aren't many #5 starters around who win more than 10 games/season.

We all believe that the Nats are going to be the main competition.  To make up the difference, the Braves are going to have to play, at least, .500 against them.  That would be enough to make up a lot of games in the standings, compared with last season.  Taken a step further, they're probably not going to go with Teheran in many of those match-ups.

Kelly Johnson?  Utley-like IMO.

We were 8-10 against the Nats last year so it's not like they dominated us.
