Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
Joe Terdoslavich is moving to the outfield:
"We're going to to go ahead and let him play some outfield," Manno said. "It's one of those things where the more positions he can play, the better increase to his value. Being a switch-hitter, he's a great National League player with what he can do. … Our goal for him right now is he'll be playing on the Gwinnett club and he'll be playing somewhere, maybe some outfield, maybe first base."

Zito on Simmons (2/24/12): if Simmons can be as good as Alexei that would shock me. If we could get Alexei and Lilli for Beachy and get cash I would do it. Being "arguably the best defensive SS in the minors" means nothing...

Cool! He may be ATL's pinch-hitter & backup corner IF/OF one day.

Braves made a big mistake with Terd last year. Should have never went to Gwinnett to start the year.

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
He was a 23 year old hitting 852 OPS in AA over 300+ PAs. I don't think starting him in Gwinnett was a *huge* misjudgement. He probably wasn't ready, but I don't see where it was a big mistake.

He jumped from A+ to AAA last year. Then was demoted.
He should have started in Miss last year. Raked like he did and then went up to AAA in August. I still think he could be a valueable player if you can get him at LF but Braves hurt his development last year IMO.

Re: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
So, if I understand correctly you think Joey T would have been better served if he had done well at AA the beginning of last year and then potentially struggled at AAA to end the season? I guess it is possible he wouldn't have struggled at AAA if he had gone through AA first, but then the fact that he did well in AA tends to indicate that the front office was correct in challenging him, right?
I like Joey T as a prospect, but I have a hard time finding a future for him on this team if he can't play 3b. If they are putting him in left, I hope he mashes and drives his value through the roof because at this point he is simply a trade chip.

I'm about 99.9% sure his struggles had more to do with going to 3B than learning to go to AAA. There is marginal difference between AA and AAA. Terdo is a poorman's Eric Hinske.

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
Great news for Joey!
Now all he has to do is beat out Justin Upton, Jayson Heyward, Reed Johnson, Jose Constanza, Evan Gattis, Jordan Parraz, Todd Cunningham and maybe Jordan Schafer for playing time!!!

The Braves have so few legit position prospects they are desperately trying to increase the value of the few fringe players they do have in the system. It's a bit pathetic actually.

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
Agree?
The 2010 draft probably won't produce much of anything besides Andrelton Simmons (no longer eligible for the list), 2011 looks just slightly better right now and 2009 is likely to end up producing Mike Minor and nothing else. They're not lower because they've made good trades and found value in non-traditional ways, but you can't get this little value from the draft for long without feeling it.

I was because tthat was about the only shot he'd have of contributing to this team, when he proved he couldn't handle that well then I designated him as backup 1B/PH.

The 2011 draft is looking to be a really good one so far. I think Wren and his staff have done somewhat well since Clark left.

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
On average a draft will produce four major league players (adjusting for picks lost or gained).
From 2010, Simmons has already reached the majors and Terdoslavich, Leonard, Lipka, Gattis, Cunningham, Shreve, Beckwith and Drury (though not with the Braves) have a chance to make it. That's pretty good considering we did not have a first round pick (Lipka was a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds). It has a chance to be an above average draft.

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
So the only one of those guys who'll ever amount to anything is Simmons and its an above average draft? poor drafting of positional prospects has depleted the Braves organization. You realize that probably every team has at least two positional prospects rated higher than the Braves best positional prospect?

RE: Joey Terdoslavich to play the outfield
Most of those teams suck. Braves dont. Thats all that matters. Teamslike the padres and royals can have all the prospects th ey desire. They arent really helping. Braves use thiers to make trades. Plus if simmons turns into an as it makes it a good draft. He alreadymade the majors while other teams just have prospslects that may or may not pan out. Which you are always bring up. The liklihood prospects will flame out.
Saying this the braves do need to draft better lol.
