This Outfield

This Outfield

I was born in 1993... is this the best outfield in my lifetime of any ML team? Potentially? The best I can remember since I've been watching baseball.

Our outfield in 2012 was pretty good

We had Sheffield, Andruw and Chipper in 2002.

That was the best by far.

That was 86 HRs and 278 RBIs collectively by the way....

Re: This Outfield

This outfield combined for 72 home runs last year.

Barry Bonds outhomered all 3 of them in one season.

Let's not get carried away about the best OF of all time.

Time will tell.

I'm not a big fan of BJ but love Justin. I'm hoping having his brother playing with him will take his game to another level.

I remember when we had an outfield of Francoeur, Blanco, Anderson, Diaz, and Schafer so this is much better, lol.

Yeah man. They've got their work cut out for them to top our 2002 big three

RE: This Outfield

I'm including defense, speed, etc. in this. Our outfield last year was heads and shoulders better than any other NL team and this one imo can be even better. But I've only been watching baseball since about 2005 and only really got into it in Bobby's last year, so idk.

RE: This Outfield

If Heyward and the Uptons string together a year of max potential ball (odds of that happening are much closer to slim than none) it will be one of the greatest outfields of all time. Realize that we have 3 former BA number top 3 prospects (1 number 1 and 2 number 2s) patrolling our OF now. The sky is the limit for production we can get from them. Realistically though, this will be one of our better OFs, but I don't think it will pass the OFs we had when Andruw actually had 2 good guys next to him. 03 and if Chipper had stayed in LF all year 04 were problably our best outfields. Druw was regularly putting up stellar seasons, our right fielders were amazing (JD posted arguably the best season of any Braves player ever. Certainly the best since Hank hung the cleats up, yes better than Murph and Chipper's MVP seasons but mainly because of Drew's defensive advantage)

By the way, I like that now our OF sounds like an old school doo wap or Motown group.

"Ladies and gentlemen please welcome to the stage, Jason Heyward and the Uptons!!"

It's our most athletic OF. Upton, Upton, and Heyward all of the potential to hit over 25 Hrs and steal over 20 bags each while all of them plays above average D.

Here is my question.

How soon do we start thinking about locking Heyward and J. Upton up long term? We have BJ signed for 5 years. I'd like to keep this group together for the next decade. I'd think Justin would be more open to staying here longterm since his brother is here with him.

I'd lock them up as long as we can right now. I advocated before the offseason signing Heyward for a 7 year contract. I'm still advocating that now, I'd offer Justin a 2 year extension at least to his deal but I wouldn't mind making it a 3 or 4 year extension either.

Potentially achievable by this group.

It def has the potential to be. An I'd make Heyward an offer right now while he's happy. And Justin would probably do it to.

Quick reminder on extending Upton... take a step back and remember we did the same for Uggla. Look at where that is now?? I make sure he has a bounce back year before any extension talk.

Re: This Outfield

The thing about this OF is that every member can have a breakout year and post a 30/30 season with a 1000 OPS and make a run at an MVP award.

One of them probably will within the next fews years.

Sometimes I feel like athleticism is overhyped in terms of perceived potential in baseball. We obviously have some superieor athletes in our outfield. I hope that translates into lots of production for the forseeable future!
