Michael Morse to Seattle
Three team trade between Mariners, A's and Nats...Nats end up with AJ Cole from the As

Just shed $7M and got a possible #2 starter with more to come...Not a bad move by the Nats

Its awesome when you can throw money at a first baseman and then trade the extra guy for a really good prospect.

Aj Cole is a guy they had but traded for Gio. They also reportedly get a "good" prospectand a ptbnl.
It was probably more Tyler Moore that made him expendable.

Morse was a valuable piece for them last year. They gained a goo spect but they made thier mlb team worse imo.

RE: Michael Morse to Seattle
Which lineup would be better?
Gnats: Span - CF Harper - RF Zimmerman - 3B LaRoche - 1B Werth - LF Espinosa - 2B Desmond - SS Ramos - C
Braves: B.J. Upton - CF Prado - 3B Heyward - RF J. Upton - LF Freeman - 1B Uggla - 2B McCann - C Simmons - SS
I personally think ours would be the best in the NL.

RE: Michael Morse to Seattle
They got more than I thought especially since it sounds like they are getting two more players in the deal.
Not sure what the A's are doing...they got Jaso from the Mariners and that's it. Didn't think Jaso was that valuable.

Good trade for the Nats, don't know what the A's are thinking trading 3 players for a backup C though

Re: Michael Morse to Seattle
Another solid move from Washington. They are an extremely well-run org and will be a contender for the foreseeable future.
I know teams don't like to make moves in reaction to what another team is doing, but the Nats offseason so far may force the Braves to move on J. Upton. I have a feeling the hybrid Prado-Gattis-Johnson LF and 3B combo won't cut it.

RE: Michael Morse to Seattle
There is much to admire about the Gnats.
However, we need to do what is right for our team regardless of what they are doing. And that might entail being willing to take our chances on being one of the Wild Cards.

I usually think the same way as far as building your team independent of others but that one game wild card playoff is brutal and high-risk.

But there are risks too in chasing a juggernaut. I'd rather contend year-in year-out than make a concentrated push to win in a particular year. The Teixeira trade remains the ultimate reminder of that. And no I'm not one of those people who is opposed to trying to acquire Justin Upton. I think he is a very good fit for us. At the right price. That's always the caveat.

Re: Michael Morse to Seattle
Thinking on it, Sea is probably out for Bourn now...
Rays- Jennings Yanks- Grandy Sox- Vic/Ells Jays- Rasmus O's- Jones
Indians- Stubbs Tigers- AJax Royals- Cain White Sox- De La Za Twins- Prospects
Angels- Trout Rangers- One logical fit, have $$ if they want him. M's- Saunders/Gutirrez A's- Crisp/Young Astros- Not sure but doubtful
Nats- Span Phils- Revere Mets- They could probably get him if they wanted. Marlins- $$
Cards- Jay Brewers- Gomez? Reds- Choo Pirates- Cutch Cubs- Solano/Jackson?
Giants- Pagan Dodgers- Kemp Rockies- Fowler Padres- Maybin DBacks- Eaton/Ross
Outside of Tex, not sure who is gonna get Bourn or would for that matter.

RE: Michael Morse to Seattle
Nats got a good return for Morse, but im glad he was traded. Dont underestimate the loss of a guy they hit in the 4 and 5 spot a lot last year.
Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts,' probably lost.
