Marlins will "listen" to offers for Stanton
By Zach Links [December 30 at 10:29am CST] In the wake of the Marlins' blockbuster deal with the Blue Jays, the Marlins publicly stated that they wouldn't trade Giancarlo Stanton. Assistant General Manager Dan Jennings says that the club isn't shopping the right fielder, but they will listen to all offers for him, according to Jim Bowden of SiriusXM (on Twitter). Teams have been inquiring on Stanton ever since the Marlins shipped Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Josh Johnson to Toronto in November. Stanton was vocal about his displeasure with the Marlins' front office after the trade and agent Joel Wolfe declined comment earlier this month when asked if his client had requested a trade. Jennings also told Bowden (Twitter link) that Miami isn't going to surprise anyone and pursue any of the top free agents left on the open market. As the MLBTR Transaction Tracker shows, the Marlins have only signed two free agents so far this winter: Placido Polanco and Juan Pierre.

Re: Marlins will "listen" to offers for Stanton
The Marlins would want Freeman or Simmons plus Minor and another young arm, or two...... maybe a leg also.
While Stanton is terrific he would cost far more to the Braves than he would make up over a season.

I do that deal now. And I see if I can jump in on Laroche. Heyward4MVP wrote:

RE: Marlins will "listen" to offers for
Freeman or SImmons will have to be involved without a doubt.
My guess is something like Freeman, Medlen, and Ahmed/Bethancourt would probably get it done. And honestly I'd do that and take some of our extra money and sign Marcum or Saunders. Or pitching will be worse, but our offense will be so much better. Start Gattis/Francisco platoon at 1B and we'd have oodles of power.

FF, minor, medlen/beachy, and delgado/julio with some b spects as well. Maybe simmons is asked for and in the deal. Stanton is better than jup so he would cost way more. Hes also gonna get hella expensive.

Re: Marlins will "listen" to offers for Stanton
Why in the world would the Marlins trade a guy like Stanton for a guy like Freeman who has similar service time? They wouldn't. They would want impact prospects.
The Braves don't have anywhere near the minor league talent required to get Stanton, so it isn't even worth talking about.

There is no chance the Braves will trade hwat it takes to get Stanton.
Rangers will dangle Profar and our chance is done.

I wonder if the Rangers would say yes if the Marlins asked for Profar, Olt & Perez. thethe wrote: There is no chance the Braves will trade hwat it takes to get Stanton.

Re: Marlins will "listen" to offers for Stanton
I'd b all over Stanton. And yes I'd include Freeman. Freeman, Teheran, Delgado, and Ahmed is what I'd offer and see what they say. An OF of Stanton, Heyward, and Upton is amazing and would b the best n baseball and thats sayin a lot.

I think they would. Stanton would hit 50+ every year in that ballpark.

RE: Marlins will "listen" to offers for
I've had a feeling for a while that Stanton would wind up a Ranger either before the season or before the trade deadline. I would offer mostly anyone except Heyward, Kimbrel and Simmons unless we got a third team involved where we could get a shortstop.

If Texas got Stanton the world series would be the ALCS between LAA and Texas.

Done deal. Don't see that getting it done either. Texas can (and very well may) offer Profar, Olt, Perez, and Buckel or Martin, sign LaRoche and Lohse or Marcum and send a big "eff you" to the Angels. Boston can (and very well may) offer Bogaerts, Bradley, Barnes, and Webster or Swihart. Wren can't come close to matching those packages, and he'd have to beat them substantially to convince the Marlins to trade him within the division. Would've taken Teheran, Delgado, Simmons, and Gattis before clocks started, and likely Minor or Medlen. You simply can't trade a guy like Stanton within your own division - doesn't anybody remember what happened when Boston sold Ruth?

I wouldn't trade Heyward because that's a lateral trade but I'd offer up anyone else in the right package. I think Freeman would be who they would be most interested in. He's not ideal because he's not a prospect, he's excellent and young and could be sold to the fans as the new face of the franchise. We can't in theory match other teams like the Rangers, but who knows if they would want to.

RE: Marlins will "listen" to offers for
He's worth the farm. So that means there is a 99% chance we could not trade for him. Justin Upton is more attainable.
But given the 1% cahnce we could, and all we traded are "prospects", I'd poo myself.
